Introduction

Drug and substance have been one of the biggest challenges to society. Families like that of Kayla have been broken and people have found themselves going to prisons for their action. The formation of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has been a boost to the society as it has brought about the fight for change. Its mission is to bring more technology on the consequences and causes of drug addiction and usage hence applying the knowledge to improve public and individual health.

Children have been widely affected by the use of drugs as mainly the users are people around them. As a social worker, I took the responsibility to join AMHA targeting a community of 600 people to save the children from the consequences of their parents' actions.

In accordance with the NIDA principles, the target group should be taken through various recovery measures to avoid children like Tyler and Alyssa from joining the same slavery of drug abuse. Cleaning the present will help in controlling the future. The principles include:

Drug abuse should be taken as a brain disease since it affects human behavior. This has been noted since the side effects affect the user month's years after he or she has stopped using the drugs.

To be able to recover the addicts effectively, effective treatment and management of the problem should be considered over a long time (Napier 1997). This will help reduce the habit of backsliding.

Behavioral changes that are stable should be attained by the use of a long-lasting treatment plan (Sartor et al., 2007). This will be achieved by teaching the addicts to break old behavior patterns and old thinking and adopt new tactics of thinking and embrace change to be sober.

In treatment, the first step is an assessment. To be able to establish how to treat an addict, a history of the addict and the drugs he uses should be established first to be able to set the best treatment plan.

To fit an individual's needs, tailoring services are an important treatment of drug abuse for the criminal justice population. People differ in terms of age, gender culture and other more hence tailored treatment interventions develop the healthy interpersonal understanding to enable a person to relate well with friends, family, and the community.

Monitoring of drug use during the treatment process should be carefully followed. This will avoid the victims expiring relapses or get back to taking the drugs (Napier 1997).

The main factors to consider during treatment are behaviors associated with crime. Beliefs and attitudes lead to people to be criminal minded and this should be curbed at this treatment stage.

Drug abusing offenders during the treatment plan should be incorporated in the supervision of criminal justice and as the treatment providers, we should aware of the requirements of correctional supervision.

Continuers care for drug users is important for them when they are re-entering the community especially the offenders like Kayla's husband after he is recovered (Sartor et al., 2007). This gives them confidence and acceptance of them to the community and vice-versa.

Encouragement through the balance of sanctions and rewards should be endorsed to help pro-social behavior and treatment participation. This highly gives the desired outcome when perceived as fair and swiftly flow as targeted behavior wise.

Medication such as methadone should be used to treat many offenders who are drug abusers since they help reduce heroin use hence they should be availed to those recovering for their own benefits.

The last measure is treatment planning of offenders who are drug abusers re-entering or living in the community should involve preventive measures that take seriously the threat of chronicle medical conditions like HIV/AIDs, tuberculosis and others (Sartor et al., 2007). These diseases are high in drug users and should be curbed since many don't know about them.

Children like Tyler should be engaged in activities such as a game to reduce their idle time avoiding their recruitment into drugs. Parents should increase their time with the kids to be able to reduce bad influence from others and observe their character.

In conclusion, these measures will target the community at large and the future of the community. The young generation will mostly follow their elders behavior and the better it is, the lower the chances of going world. As a social worker, it is the best way to treat the community to become healthy.
