The article entitled "The Longest War," written by Rebecca Solnit, focused on the issues surrounding the concept of male violence. The entirety revolves around how the plethora of male violence is primarily attributed to women. Most of her statements seek to explain how a multitude of innocent women around the world faces abuse from men. In the contemporary world, there are many cases of male violence such that it is becoming relentless to the media. She states that the male characters are to be held accountable for the deluge of violence. It has affected most women, regardless of their demographics across the world.

Solnit's piece offers a voice to the incredible ordeal of violence against women. In the article, she talks of how harassment from men that are directed to women keeps them from speaking up; making most of them live in constant fear when around men. Furthermore, Solnit notes that men openly express authoritative behavior; a fact that makes them continuously feel discriminated in a society with both genders. She expands, stating that the acts are exceptional crimes, even though quotidian assaults are not counted with them. Her presentation of information is done coherently using historical, statistical, and factual data.

The article also gives insight into the assumptions such as the progress of things in the area, even though there is no much of it. Therefore, the society neglects that women are attacked both physically and economically. Even though women still struggle within the community, so much is expected of them (Solnit 11). She also integrates individual perceptions of gender and inequality about discrimination through violence. Among the statistics of male violence is that she associates men with risk factors for violent criminal behavior.

I have understood that the lynchpin for a higher examination of violence against women in India and more particularly, New Delhi is gang rape. According to Solnit, abuse is not associated with a particular race, class, religion, or nationality (Nixon 23). The most shocking bit of her statements was that it has a gender. Even though this could be a metaphor, the statement ought not to be gender-biased. Most of her comments are provocative of men. The fact that the Solnit is a woman also adds to the discriminatory action her piece gives. She is persuasive in her arguments regarding violence against women by men. She also seems to be articulate to a fault. The statements mean that she is more vocal and cannot be diminished, which are some of the qualities of feminist women.

Solnit's writing is in its victory and revolt, but she seems to associate violence to the male gender yet does not explain the various forms of abuse that exist, and which involve women. Cases of gang rape and murders of men are also available around the world. Additionally, there are assaults of young men, only that they seem to be more courageous and do not get dragged into the media. It is evident that most forms of violence are gender insensitive and patterns of these deviant activities exist across male and female entities across the world. Men could be the chief perpetrators of pandemic levels of violence described by Solnit. Her statistics were too specific to rape, whereas such research could have given data regarding men and compare the two to find the extent of the matter. Therefore, it could have been significant if two sides of the story as based on gender were looked into.
