Introduction
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is a new technology application that integrates the use of technology in decision making in everyday activities. AmI uses the extensive sensors, networks, computing and artificial intelligence which have experienced significant growth in the recent past to create technological applications that can revolutionize daily human life and decision making approaches by making the environment more flexible and adaptive to human needs. Ambient Intelligence uses the widespread availability of computing devices in different industries and applications in life to allow people to interact with the physical environment in a more intelligent and unobtrusive approach. In the new paradigm created by Ambient Intelligent makes the environment more responsive to human needs and makes it possible to forecast behavior and integrate them in day to day decision making processes (Kovacs and Kopacsi, 2006). Therefore, Ambient Intelligence makes technology an integral aspect of future interactions through pervasive computing and the electronic systems will be able to interact and react to the presence of human beings in a more non-intrusive manner.
Ambient Intelligence projects a world where the surrounding environment and technology is integrated and creates assistive framework where technology meets the needs and desires of the users more effectively. This aspect of Ambient Intelligence is achievable through the use of smart devices and brings more intuition of the environment to the user. Mobile technology which is equipped with sensing technology is an example of modern Ambient Technology product and applications which supports the user activities (Cook, Augusto, and Jakkula, 2009). Therefore, Ambient Technology is achieved through the use of ubiquitous computing, intelligent and user-friendly interface and ubiquitous communication system. The ability of Ambient Intelligence applications to be embedded in the furniture, vehicles, clothing and other domestic and business-based appliances makes it more applicable and feasible in the future (Kovacs and Kopacsi, 2006). Machine learning is one of the technology developments that has made it possible to develop Ambient Intelligence technology. Machine learning makes it possible for systems and devices to learn from experience or have the ability to extrapolate current data in databases to expand their knowledge autonomously.
Application of Ambient Intelligence
Communications
The communication aspect of Ambient Intelligence is clear because it provides an opportunity to use emergent technologies to compute, sense, display and communicate information to users to make decisions. In communication, Ambient Intelligence technology can be found in the sensors embedded in mobile phones that can provide the user with the information regarding the weather condition as well as Global Positioning Systems which has improved communication by making it seamless. Ambient Intelligence has helped to integrate communication systems that were previously distinct to create more inclusive access to information. Sensors can provide people with the necessary information regarding their environment such as location, latitude, and climate without having to go through databases to get the required information (Pauwels, Salah, and Tavenard, 2007).
Education
In education, new Ambient Intelligence education facilities facilitate greater human interaction with the environment with the aid of new ubiquitous technology. The new education facilities promote easy access to people with disability by allowing simulation spaces. The libraries through Ambient Intelligence has access systems that support multiple languages that are programmed into the systems. The visual recognition of images and book pages in the libraries facilitate the creation of a smart context-based interaction in the workspaces and speech recognition technologies which increases student's access (Margetis et al., 2011). The augmented desk which is an example of Ambient Intelligence application in education replaces the need of physical textbooks and monitors the progress of the students while ensuring students get real-time assistance to access knowledge and learning materials in multiple databases.
Security
Ambient Intelligence has made more impact on modern technology applications in safety, and there is a significant potential for future expansion in terms of applications. For instance, the movement security sensors is an Ambient Intelligence application in security that reduces the necessity of human security and gives technology appliances a more significant role in property protection. Apart from the movement sensors, fire sensors in buildings are an example of Ambient Intelligence application in security that warns occupants of the immediate danger on fire. Further, earthquake sensor and weapon sensors in airports and public spaces present modern, sophisticated applications of Ambient Intelligence to improve public safety (Augusto and McCullagh, 2007). Regarding security, Ambient Intelligence applications are more effective, accurate and efficient compared to previous manual systems and human labor dependent security systems.

In industries, Ambient Intelligence is used in the creation of smart control systems that improves the total output as well as the maximization of the inputs in the industrial sectors. The advent of Ambient Intelligence has led to increased accuracy and automated systems in the industries that do not need human labor and high attention. As such, the emergence of Ambient Intelligence in industries improves productivity and reduces wastages in the organization which is ideal for top performing industries while at the same time reducing the overall labor costs. In industrial areas, research is necessary to create new improved products which are possible today due to the optimum measurement of ingredients used to develop products as well as in research (Stokic, Kirchhoff, and Sundmaeker, 2006).
Healthcare
As a new paradigm of information technology in healthcare Ambience Intelligence applications are taking shape. In fitness and chronic illness management, smart watches and wrist devices are being used to collect real-time patient data and give the patient feedback regarding their temperature, heartbeat, blood pressure and blood sugar which enables patients to make better-informed decisions. In fitness, the smartwatches and wrist devices can count the number of calories burnt during exercises as well as the general body condition which enables individuals to regulate their activities. Healthcare organizations have been able to improve the quality of care by adopting smart technology that can monitor the status of the patients especially those in intensive care units who require constant temperature and blood pressure monitoring (Augusto and McCullagh, 2007).

Data sensed by devices in specific traffic areas is channeled to a centralized location where the algorithm is used to automatically transform the information into meaningful data which can lead to the initiation of responses (Bhuvaneswari et al., 2010).
Globalization
Regarding globalization, Ambient Intelligence has increased access to real-time information on a global scale and also has improved communication. Flights timetables, status, and schedules from different places around the world can easily be accessed due to Ambient Intelligence. Ambient Intelligence has made traveling safer through advanced weather warning systems that have powerful sensors which can quickly send data to the traffic controllers and the pilots to make better decisions on the areas to avoid. Ambient Intelligence has promoted globalization through trade as new smart technologies are on demand globally which increases the interaction between people and cultures.
Assisted Living
In assisted living, Ambient Intelligence has increased the independence of people who have to depend on others. Ventilation cooling, heating, and electrical installations are automated due to sensors which makes it easy for people in assisted living to rely on technology to regulate their environment. Smart homes are an application of Ambient Intelligence where the control of different elements of the house are automated such as switching on and off of light, security as well as the safety of the occupants (Alahuhta and Heinonen, 2003). In assisted living homes, smart home technology can be used to elevate the level of independence through automated house functions. Cold and warm weather fluctuations in assisted living which have installed smart home technologies can be able to regulate the environment even in the absence of the home assistants. Medical devices in the assisted living homes make it possible for people with chronic problems to easily monitor their health conditions (Villarreal et al., 2012). The medical devices can be able to wirelessly send patient data to health care providers in a remote location which improves the overall emergency response time.
Rehabilitation
The development of technology and smart technology that is based on Ambient Intelligence is used today to improve the lives of people with disabilities. Assistive technology tools are used today to compensate for functional limitations in human beings and increase the independence of people with disabilities. Intelligence Mixed Reality is a new orientation that has been facilitated by Ambient Intelligence and uses computer interfaces to facilitate communication especially for people with sensory impairments (Morganti and Riva, 2005). Therefore, Ambient Intelligence has improved the quality of life for many people living with a disability despite the high cost of the current inventions which are envisioned to become cheaper in future and increase accessibility.

Ambient Intelligence has revolutionized many sectors and areas of life through the creation of smart tools and appliances that have increasingly improved the quality of life, health outcomes, safety as well as production of high quality products due to smart control systems for industries. Ambient Intelligence continues to make an impact in education, health and transportation through sensor based systems that improve human interaction with the environment through ubiquitous products and gadgets.
