Introduction

Sweden is among countries with a long history when it comes to cases and events of immigration. There have been some recent immigrant issues that have reached a peak, and in that case, they have posed a challenge to the people who seem to be moving freely in and out of the country. Events of migration started taking place early in Sweden. This was where the Middle Ages had the German merchants taking part in trade with the Swedish government, and they were followed by the Finnish people who ended up settling in Sweden in the 1500s. There were also the Roma people who decided to settle in Sweden as they realized it was the best place to conduct trade and to enjoy the peace that was available in the country. The 1600s had the French and Belgians settling in Sweden, and that was catapulted by the iron industry that was booming in the area.

Immigration to Sweden entails moving from one country to Sweden to have it as a place of residence while taking part in different kinds of activities1. Many people have migrated to Sweden and become citizens, and this happens when they realize that it is a good place to accomplish all their needs and desires. There have been some controversies surrounding the social, police and economic aspects of immigration while focusing on Sweden as a country. The controversies come when looked from the perspective of ethnicity, economic benefits, crime, voting behaviour, non-immigrant settlements and settlement patterns that have been put in place.

Sweden has put in place some policies that guide the issue of immigration so that it can be able to control all the events that come out of the same2. For instance, the government of Sweden decided against introducing temporarily controls at the borders. This entails making sure that ID checks were conducted in the right manner to have an assurance that all the people getting into the country do not have any adverse intentions. There was also a policy that was put in place to guide the kind of people who were allowed to get into the country act as ordinary residents. It steads that only those who had subsidiary protection would be granted with temporary protection with regards to opportunities that are connected to family reunification. In that case, the kind of policies that the country has been putting in place with regards to immigration are those which people can bear and also tolerate.

Sweden has regarded immigration as a threat to a range of things that include national security and also the welfare of the state. In that case, it has come up with laws that are based on national identity with the kind of effects that it has on immigration. The country has rules that are sceptical when it comes to people who come from countries that are well endowed in business2. In that case, the policies that it puts in place are geared towards reducing the economic threats that are posed by immigrants. For example, people who are not from the European Unions are not easily allowed to get into Sweden as there is a belief that they will interfere with the economic stability of the nation.

Robert, H. (2018). "New York Times Finally gets around to reporting on Sweden's immigrant gang problem a year after bashing Trump for pointing out." The New York Times.

The perceived threats concerning national identity can be used to gain an explanation of the reason as to why Sweden worries about the impact that is posed by immigration. This is in line with the kind of policies that it has put in place that concerning the kind of people who are supposed to get into the country3. National identity means a different thing in Sweden in that to some, it is all about being born in Sweden, and for others, it is about providing some form of respect to the institutions that have been putting in place the county. In that case, the immigration policies that it designs majors on making sure that the people who get into the country are those who are ready to abide by the rules and regulations that it has put in place and also those who are ready to operate in their institutions without any interference.

The history of Sweden also has an impact on the immigration policies that it establishes after a given period. This has contributed to the fact that the laws that the country establishes on immigration have become restrictive. There has been mass immigration into Sweden, and this has been impacted by the kind of history that it had in the past. Most of the people who get to Sweden come from Germany, France, Rome, and Belgium4. All these are countries that were in close connection to Sweden in the past and therefore may have a perception that the affiliation is still in existence. In that case, the kind of policies that the country puts in place also seems to be lenient to people who come from such countries.

Sorensen, S. M. (2017). "Sweden, Nation Open Arms, Debates Implications of Immigration." The New York Times.

Globalization is a factor that has been promoting immigration into Sweden, and the country has had to reduce the kind of controls that it has placed on international affairs. In most cases, in a world where there are winners, the losers are not likely to disappear, but they look for a place to go and get refuge. In that case, globalization has led to an increase in mobility of labour and many people are heading to Sweden as it has many employment opportunities5. Also, it is also ready to welcome new skills from other countries that are willing to transact with it. The examples of communication networks are in the form of satellite, and telephone connections have proved the fact that Sweden is ready to embrace all the positive aspects that come with globalization. In that case, Sweden's immigration policies are on the notion that only people who have the desire to promote globalization from the perspective of economics and social integration are the ones who will be given priority to get into the county.

The political culture intermingles with public opinion on immigration, and this is imminent in some countries. The political culture of Sweden has been a significant factor when it comes to the kind of policies that it has put in place on immigration5.The public in Sweden follow the rules and advice that comes from the leaders regarding the welcoming aspects that they are supposed to show to refugees. Sweden has been commonly known when it comes to the establishment of the most generous immigration laws while on focusing on Europe alone. Since these laws were established, the population of Sweden rose from 10 million to 12 million, and that affected its economic and political stability.

Sorensen, S. M. (2017). "Sweden, Nation Open Arms, Debates Implications of Immigration." The New York Times.

In that case, the political culture had to change so as for restricting some people from getting into the country. In that case, it is evident that the political culture of the country influenced the opinion that people had on immigration.

The system of government has got an influence on policymaking regarding immigration. The system of government in Sweden is based on democracy in that the public power is the one that determines all the rules that it puts in place. Everyone in Sweden is supposed to enjoy rights that are revolving around scrutinizing the politicians and also the public agencies. In that cases, the policy-making immigration is based on the desires of the people. The people of Sweden are always welcoming, and that is the reason why they promote policies that are siding with the refugees and other immigrants. In that case, the policy-making aspect is boosted by the democratic government that it has put in place.

Government institutions have changed because of immigration issues or past policies. Government institutions in Sweden changed when looked from the perspective of immigration issues and the policies put in place in the past6. For instance, the government, through the prime minister, urged the people to have an open heart towards the immigrants and therefore all the institutions had to accept them. In that case, all government institutions in Sweden are ready to work with foreigners without any form of discrimination or prejudice. The past policies that it put in place are now effective, but this is slowly affecting the country having in mind that it has gone down when focusing on the current economic status.

Blank, D. (2018). "Swedish Immigration to North America." Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Centre.

Immigration issues have affected policies issues and defense when it comes to NATO involvement. The fact that Sweden has been lenient when it comes to immigration issues means that all the policies that it initiates are based on that aspect7. People have been getting into the country frequently because they believe they will be welcomed with open hands. It is this aspect that has made the country to face an issue when it comes to NATO involvement. NATO is a body that makes sure that all political decisions are made out of consolation with other countries and also the identification of defense is efficiently implemented. In that case, NATO has not been able to stamp its authority in Sweden as the country already allows almost everyone to get into its territories.

There have been interactions between individual states and supranational (EU) interactions, and this is facilitated by the existence of EU. Sweden is a country that has been in a good connection with the EU, and that means the kind of rules that it puts in place on immigration is influenced by the body. The EU is in charge of the public opinions that have led to the widespread scepticism when it comes to the decisions that Sweden makes. Most of the people who migrate to Sweden are from the EU, and this is because the supranational interactions that the EU has with the country is at international levels that are only affected by the policies that it puts in place internally. The EU has made Sweden be able to interact well with the neighbours under, and this has made it accommodate many of the immigrants when looked from the perspective of policies that are in line with the current generation.
