Weaver, P., Jansen, L., Van Grootveld, G., Van Spiegel, E., & Vergragt, P. (2017).
Sustainable technology development. Routledge. Technology today has been tailored to meet various human needs considering its broad nature. Technology has influenced society in various ways, and this includes how people interact with each other socially and economically (Weaver, Jansen, Van Grootveld, Van Spiegel & Vergragt, 2017). How individuals to purchase products nowadays have also changed as compared to the past. Workplaces also function differently; this is brought about by the internet and internet technologies.
The use of postal services, handwritten letters, reading of newspapers as well as using telegrams have gone down as a result of social internet networks and the introduction of mobile phones. People no longer use book stores and music stores. Politicians have also changed their mode of campaigning as they can easily create online platforms to address people.
Bulman, G., & Fairlie, R. W. (2016). Technology and education: Computers, software, and the internet. In Handbook of the Economics of Education (Vol. 5, pp. 239-280). Elsevier. Technology has made learning easy as students can easily access data. How has technology affected education?
Technology has affected the learning process, both positively and negatively. The introduction of technology has enabled students to access data, information, and they can also learn what they wish to with ease (Bulman & Fairlie, 2016). Today, students can learn from home and take their degrees or masters from online schools, unlike the old days when learning institutions used to be far from home and, they could learn with difficulties. The introduction of various types of online courses has enabled everyone to access the content that they wish to through their computers.
When it comes to social networking, the introduction of computers has not done any justice to the introvert students. These students cannot open up and connect to students from their faculty or their tutors when communicating through social networking. Computers have also taken away the privilege of students who wish to collaborate and work together.
Technology is now an important part of the learning process, and this is regardless of the education level that the learner has reached whether a student is in college studying statistics or grade one and trying to learn how to read.
Cascio, W. F., & Montealegre, R. (2016). How technology is changing work and organizations. Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior, 3, 349-375. Technology has enabled participants to hold conferences while in different locations. How has technology changed the ways of communication?
Before the evolution of technology, communication used to be slow. People would write letters or use other communication sources such as greeting cards and money orders, which took a long time to reach the required destination. Those days people used to focus on what is important and the lives of their loved ones as there were no competitions and destructions as today. Human beings were also more productive.
But technology changed everything. Now communication is faster. People can easily send emails as they own mobile phones and computers. It has also enhanced other ways in which people can easily communicate, such as through video calls, social media, mobile apps, among others (Cascio &Nontealgre, 2016). The advantages are that it is easier and faster to use mobiles and computers to pass a message.
Currently, most people have forgotten the basic use of technology in communication, which has led to overuse of it. The consequences of this action are that it affects our peace of mind, it has also destroyed the feelings of people, these individuals seem to be busy, but in reality the majority of them are addicted to their phones and are wasting a lot of time.
Palmer, S. (2015). Toxic childhood: How the modern world is damaging our children and what we can do about it. Orion. Today, people are more concerned with technology than the people around them. How has technology changed the lifestyle?
Technology has changed our lifestyle. Unlike the past, where people were more productive and busier leading their usual sensible lives, today, none of that matters as most individuals prefer spending their lives on social media. In the past, humans used to create time for everyone and at least cared for humanity. People also got time to share their feelings and moods with their loved ones. Nature was appreciated, and people could easily express their feelings and emotions.
Today, people are more concerned with technology (Palmer, 2015). Many prefer watching the television, playing video games, or using the internet as opposed to playing with friends and giving our families the required attention. Technology has made people unnecessarily busy as they are only concerned with equipment or gadgets that can help them in their daily work; thus, they cannot leave without the equipment.
There are a lot of risks involved after the introduction of technology in our lives today. People are seen taking selfies in risky areas; individuals do online shopping where varieties are as well as price comparison tools.
The technology change can be classified as good or bad, depending on how an individual is using it.
Paul, D. L. (2017). Telemedicine: as the technology has matured, how have the technology management challenges changed? International Journal of Electronic Healthcare, 9(2-3), 186-209. Technology has enabled increase in the number of health care technologies. How has technology changed our health?
Technology has reduced the quality of our life. It has impacted our health both positively and negatively. The number of health care technologies has risen as compared to the past due to the excessive use of technology in our day to day life (Paul, 2017). Before the introduction of technology, people used to live longer as the majority of them had less electric equipment for both house and fieldwork use. The physical stamina back then was the best. Today, majority are greedy and expect more without putting the required efforts. It is for this reason why people are selling air purifiers and mineral water instead of telling the people that they need to plant trees and grow natural resources for them to lead healthy lives. Besides, our doctors cannot confirm a patient's safety after the operation in certain cases, even after the development of technology in the medical science sector.
Generally, technology has enslaved us. Things like the internet, machines, and mobiles are within us, and targeting our blood and emotions.
Ku, K. Y., Kong, Q., Song, Y., Deng, L., Kang, Y., & Hu, A. (2019). What predicts adolescents' critical thinking about real-life news? The roles of social media news consumption and news media literacy. Thinking Skills and Creativity, 33, 100570. Technology has enabled easy access of data and information. How has technology influenced our critical thinking skills?
Our critical thinking skills are almost dead, as many individuals no longer come up with new inventions rather, they focus on solving other people's problems. People are making goods and services depending on what we search or click and our reaction to the copywriter's text. It is profitable for the people doing this business because many people prefer reading an already explained context and do not want to reason or think. Technology has rendered us easy access to knowledge and information Ku, Kong, Song, Deng, Kang, & Hu, (2019).
Today, there is an invention of artificial intelligence, as we are not able to think critically. It is beneficial to the future generation as students can easily access data. On the other hand, the data is too much, and there is also excess information and the excessive use of technology equipment, which can make people addicted to technology tools. Technology has impacted our critical thinking as people are not in positions to analyze and understand what they have not seen.
In the past, there were no tuition classes as people could learn based on their brainpower. It is far different from today because even students in the best school now need extra tuition classes. The kids are more tensioned than in the past and are fighting with analysis paralysis problems.
