There were many parties that contributed to the occurrences in the civil war and each played a specific role. The significance of women during this period has been undermined by many scholars before but this book provides a detailed focus on the role of the southern women and it therefore presents me a unique approach to the subject of discussion.

2. Gunderson, Gerald. "The origin of the American civil war." The Journal of Economic History 34.4 (1974): 915-950.

The author gives a detailed background to the events before the 1860s and relates them to the occurrence of the civil war. The journal is an eye opener to some of the most hidden truths about life in the pre-civil war and post-civil war period. With the focus being on causation, I am able to understand and provide my stance on what critiques debate on.

3. Hegre, Havard. "Toward a democratic civil peace? Democracy, political change, and civil war, 1816-1992." American political science review 95.1 (2001): 33-48.

The authors of this text analyze the civil war from a political perspective. They begin with an assessment of the likelihood of civil war occurrence between democratic and authoritarian states while drawing illustrations to show the association between domestic violence and political change. The civil war has been used as a major reference all through the analysis and this has helped me understand the origin and strength of American democracy.

4. Hyams, Kenneth C., F. Stephen Wignall, and Robert Roswell. "War syndromes and their evaluation: from the US Civil War to the Persian Gulf War." Annals of internal medicine 125.5 (1996): 398-405.

This text works on the discovery that participants in the civil war were diagnosed with health problems for instance, disturbances during sleep and impaired concentration. The three scholars present a more elaborate discussion on the effect of the civil war from a medical perspective. It has helped me unravel the suspected war syndrome especially on the victims of the American Civil War.

5. Woods, Michael E. "What Twenty-First-Century Historians Have Said about the Causes of Disunion: A Civil War Sesquicentennial Review of the Recent Literature." Journal of American History 99.2 (2012): 415-439.

There have been many debates about the causes and the effects of the civil war on the American society. The author discusses a variety of literature that shade more light on the subject from various points of view. This source helped me in uncovering the views of various historians regarding the war.
