Studying medicine is a significant achievement that needs a lot of focus and determination since the human body is a complex structure and a unique beauty of its own. I realized the complexity of the body is inevitable when I witnessed a young eight-year-old boy dying after a short illness of dengue fever and another youth at his late twenties succumbing to cancer at a hospital where I volunteered a few years ago. It is only then that I realized the impact of such illnesses to the victims and their families and begun appreciating how fulfilling it would be if I was a doctor and was able to help in such circumstances. The harsh reality of medicine stuck me, and as a result, I have had a continuously growing passion for medicine.

For the last few decades, the medical field has become more integrated far off individual's borders. For this reason, individuals with the urge to pursue medicine must do their best to cross the borders so that they gain multinational perspective and get the relevant information about the realities of various global arenas concerning multiple illnesses and how best to handle them. Even though I have witnessed experiential experience on how a doctor's job can be diverse; ranging from drug prescription to performance of surgery, I have to admit that for one to deliver effective and appropriate care to the patients, they must have compassion and empathy from within as well as quality and standard medical training such as the ones offered by your university as described by the alumnus and other associates.

During my volunteer period at the hospital, I realized it was very crucial to treat every patient holistically. I also realized the importance of doctors to be well trained and proficient to professionally deal with both psychological and physical health issues that are presented to them by patients of all demographics. I learned how doctors communicate in devastating situations such as when patients suffered from chronic illnesses accompanied by severe pain, depression, and hopelessness. Here I realized the importance of compassion, empathy, and patience in well being of the patients as well as in enhancing the relationship between the doctor and the patient.

Having volunteered in the hospital, I had an opportunity to attend a few multidisciplinary team meetings for the clinicians. Here I learned that for an effective overall outcome of healthcare services to be achieved, working as a team is very vital. I associated with various clinicians at different levels and fortunate enough, some were so open and willing to share their experiences and pieces of advice on what it takes to expedite their duties successfully. I learned the importance of discipline; self-respect and professionalism were key contributing factors in delivering services to the patients diligently. These factors were important in providing healthcare needs to patients of different ethnicity, gender, and social classes.

Based on my experience and the few observations I have made in the medical field, I look forward being admitted to your institutions to fulfill my ambitions and acquire relevant knowledge as well as skills that will see my medicine career rise to the next level. Apart from potentially developing my career, I will be able to have excellent opportunities for future success in the medical field and deliver my duties to the community with a lot of compassion and empathy for the betterment of community's health and the world at large.
