Introduction

The infamous decision by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to do away with open internet protections is a shrewd effort by monopolists to take control of the internet and eliminate choice and limit freedom of the internet users. It simply cannot be left to stand since it represents a brute force attack on the interment community by a few unscrupulous individuals who tend to believe that they own the plethora of content flowing through their systems, but we do. Every American should recognize the benefits that they currently enjoy due to free connectivity and access to the internet without some back-end manipulation to make them view only a section of the web that is "paid for."

The very core of our community and economy today depend heavily on the ability to connect to the internet. Educational facilities and governance also heavily rely on the open internet to increase and preserve knowledge and keep law and order. So what it some of the big players in the multi-billion dollar industry want to choke these freedoms by tweaking broadband connectivity so that you only see what they want you to see, when they want you to see it? Should we let them? Or should we listen to the over 1300 pages of net neutrality complaints filed by millions of Americans?

The internet has that transformative power that drives our economy and social lives by giving us the ability to turn an amazing idea or discovery into a market-changing business. Startups both online and offline based rely on the internet for cheap marketing while consumers readily seek solutions and products online without having to be charged an arm and a leg for it. Whether you want to book a tour or meet friends from across the globe for cultural exchange, the internet is an invaluable tool for each of us in our way, and no one should be allowed to take that away from us.

The internet has long evolved to a fully grown workplace for millions of Americans and millions more from around the world who work for and with us on projects as virtual assistants. Killing open internet will not encourage competition as the big fish want us to believe but instead bury it completely.

Allowing startups to compete effectively against multinational billion dollar corporations offers choice, connection, flexibility and creative autonomy. This move by the FCC will forever kill big dreams that could change the world as we know it.

Dramatically slowed down content viewing experience, throttling or biased blocking of content from internet users is by definition an infringement on their fundamental rights and freedoms masked. The FCC just legalized a crime against not just American internet users but surfers from all over the globe. Telecoms have been pushing for this for decades now, and they are not even hiding their intention of protecting their revenue at the expense of the user.

The downing of net neutrality will inevitably result in a drastic change the way websites essentially work meaning website owners now have to pay ISPs for them to load. This, in turn, weighs on customers because almost no useful website will have free services to offer and current rates will hike. Telecoms will certainly stretch this newly found freedom to elastic limit extorting maximum fees thereby preventing new websites from surfacing on the web.

Conclusion

All these are the negative effects of the recent repeal of net neutrality and why changes must be rolled back sooner than later or this spells doom for the future of the internet and our society.
