Introduction
The question as to whether God exists has raised an ongoing debate for many centuries. In philosophy arguments on the existence of God stem from ontology and epistemology disciplines. People who do not believe in God's existence argue that if God is there why does evil occur without him preventing it, why does He allow evil to occupy human beings' nature, and that God is not universal because He lets evil to fill the universe. Despite the many arguments denying the existence of God, I argue to support that God exists. I believe that everything has a cause, and the cause of all things has a cause. This first cause is God, the creator as well as the ruler of the universe.
Arguments for the Existence of God
Atheists refute the existence of God saying that there is no evidence. To them, there is no actual reliable evidence to prove the existence of God or there is no evidence at all. In the article Whether God Exists by Ostrowick (2017), Atheists assert that people should believe in something only when there is hard proof. However, as a Christian, I do not need to see God for me to believe in his existence. Miracles are hard evidence. Through belief in the existence of a supernatural being, blind people were able to receive sight from Jesus, and this is an indication of the existence of divine powers showing that God exists.
Denial of the existence of God is false since evil results from inconveniencing of the nature of human beings. Human beings lack valuable good and therefore evil befalls them. To me, evil is something rational and unreal, and thus we cannot compare it to what God can do. Hence its source is not positive. Evil arises because of the compromising relationships amongst creatures and without evil life in the universe would be unsmooth. God created evil so that people can understand who to follow and not to follow.
The notion of perfect-being reveals that God exists. People believe in an all-perfect being that is greater than all things, possessing all possible perfection and that is God. I believe that that there must be something that caused the existence of the world. In the article Whether God Exists by Ostrowick (2017), all events in the universe have a cause which also has a cause, and the chain is infinite, and therefore there is a supreme being, God that causes all things to happen. There was something rather than nothing that created the universe, and this being is God. The universe could exist if uncaused by God. When I look at the shape of the universe and everything in it, there is no doubt that a supreme, perfect being designed the universe. All things in the universe follow a specific order.
Have you ever asked yourself why people have a criterion for distinguishing what is morally right or wrong? Human beings have a sense of morality which gives me a strong reason to believe that God exists. If God were not there, there would be no objective moral values because they make God's existence more probable. Without the existence of God life would ultimately be meaningless and without the fear of death, people would live life just the way they want. Personally, I live in hope because I believe that there is God who will deliver me from all the shortcomings of my finite existence.
Even though this evidence cannot sufficiently prove the existence of God, the weight of this evidence is not worth ignoring because it makes it possible for many people to believe in God. The accounts in the Holy Bible and of other reliable human beings testify that God exists. In the world, there are several different religions and each of them has a supreme being that they honor. Despite the religious differences in the world, I believe we all believe in the same God regardless of the pathways. Even in the traditional societies, people had holy places of worship, and when they faced with challenges they would give special sacrifices to God so that he would favor them, for instance, provide them rains, good harvest, cure diseases, and end natural disasters among others. God causes things to happen. If you consider the different calamities that people face, they come from God. When people pray to God, He answers their prayers because he only wants to show them his power over the universe. Religious believers acknowledge that God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnibenevolent.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the topic of the existence of God is an intricate one. Human beings present many different arguments for and against God's existence. Each person has their perspective regarding the existence of God. There are those who believe in God's existence, there are others who do not believe, while others are not sure. As an individual one needs to make up their mind based on their personal experiences because one cannot decide for the entire human race whether God exists or not but the decision you make is personal. For me, many bad things have happened in my life, and I can confidently say that it is through belief in God that I make it through.
