Introduction
Every person has inner aspects that control their conduct. Usually, self-identity is a collection of beliefs about an individual. In this case, self-identity tries to explain who an individual is. In social science, self-identity is deployed to illustrate and reflect how an individual’s conducts vary from another (Loyd et al., 2019). As such, self-identity tries to connect the structure and individual behaviors. The application of self-identity assists in demonstrating an individual’s social position. According to Loyd et al., (2019), self-identity is formed through an individual’s self-schemas as well as interact with personalities. The development of a sturdy and firm sense of personality is a critical aspect that youths are required to consider, especially at the adolescence level (Kingsford, Hawes, & de Rosnay, 2018). Despite self-identity occurring throughout life, youth is a crucial stage that shapes self, which impacts the way of life. At the teenage level, individuals are required to be self-conscious, which assists in identifying various changes that occur in life. According to Loyd et al., (2019), individuals at the teenage level highly experience a lot of challenges as they try to select their identity. The approach causes confusion, which affects the quality of life (Loyd et al., 2019). In this case, self-identity subject individuals to uncertainty, which requires them to engage in different activities to avoid future mistakes. Most teenagers strive to ensure the kind of identity they select to match their physical, cognitive, and emotional level. Due to the condition, young people experience a lot of stress as they try to enhance their self-identification. The essay reviews the challenges young people experience during self-identification.
During self-identification, youths experience a challenge on how to control their life. The issue is highly experienced due to external forces such as peer and technology. The development of technology has negatively impact self-identification. Usually, young people need to feel that they have control of a particular aspect of their lives (Loyd et al., 2019). However, the condition becomes challenging if they are under the influence of the external aspect. As such, it becomes challenging for youths to identify the best inner trait to deploy for their life (Kingsford, Hawes, & de Rosnay, 2018). Due to the condition, there are high chances that the young people may become hopeless, which may fully ruin their life. Uncertainty of how to control their life has been associated with an increase of other mental issues. The approach triggers an increase in depression and anxiety, which affect the quality of life (Loyd et al., 2019). When such a condition occurs, an individual experience challenge in selecting the best approach to fight the issues. As a result, teenagers may have low self-efficacy, which hinders their ability to attain their life goals. Additionally, the condition may affect their ability to believe in themselves, thus experiencing challenges in solving life issues (Kingsford, Hawes, & de Rosnay, 2018). In some critical states, young individuals may feel stuck, forcing them to seek external assistance. The approach may hinder the self-identification, thus becoming hard to control their life.
Lack of effective values to handle their life is another critical aspect young people experience in self-identification. In this case, an individual may lack the courage to handle various activities that occurs in their life (Loyd et al., 2019). Life values are a critical aspect that shapes how people live and interact with others. Therefore, experiencing challenges in recognizing best values is a critical aspect affecting self-identification (Kingsford, Hawes, & de Rosnay, 2018). Usually, a young individual may experience a challenge in identifying the most effective values to deploy when interacting with people. The approach may affect them to feel less worthy, which affect their ways of making decisions (Loyd et al., 2019). Based on the conditions, there are high chances that teenagers may ignore some values that are effective for their values. Having a poor sense of self-identity may affect how they feel toward various activities that they are engaging in. Therefore, they may feel useless when trying to do particular activities. Additionally, lack of integrity may hinder their approach toward social values, thus causing an increase in stress and other psychological issues.
Lack of connection between personality and the real-world is another critical aspect that young people experience (Loyd et al., 2019). The concept is highly experienced due to the mental issue, which hinders how an individual express their feelings (Kingsford, Hawes, & de Rosnay, 2018). Due to the condition, individuals experience mental harm, which affects how they interact with external aspects. Understanding the world is a crucial approach that influences self-identification (Loyd et al., 2019). The approach affects the kind of approach young people deploy to impact their growth. Due to mental issue, an individual may lack the freedom to identify the best aspect of themselves.
Due to mind development, young people experience behavioral changes. As a way of enhancing their independence, teenagers are likely to experience a challenge in tackling life problems (Kingsford, Hawes, & de Rosnay, 2018). Due to the condition, individuals experience challenges in identifying the best trait to deal with life problems. The condition may become worse if it is influenced by body changes. As such, they may find themselves trying new things as a way of enhancing self-identity (Loyd et al., 2019). The condition may trigger other negative effects, which may affect the quality of life. Lack of better self-control increases the chances of deploying careless behaviors, which affect their social interaction. As such, they may end up engaging personalities to fight, which affects the quality of life.
Additionally, self-identification has highly been associated with the rise of substance abuse. The condition mostly occurs if an individual has no better inner control (Kingsford, Hawes, & de Rosnay, 2018). Hence, external aspects such as peer may influence a teen to engage in drugs as they try to improve their self-identity. If the behavior goes on, an individual may fail to self-identity the inner traits that influence their life (Loyd et al., 2019). Due to the condition, an individual may have poor self-esteem, which hinders the kind of decisions and approaches they deploy for life.
