Introduction
Critical commentary is a reflective analysis of one's writing. It encapsulates arguments stating the points with which the writer is pleased as well as those in which an individual is not satisfied. Also, it incorporates the authorly intentions, as well as the choice of word, language, and style. In the latter's case, metalinguistic principles are fundamental because they inform whether or not a writer displays magnificent development of oral language, language acquisition, alongside bilingual learning (Myhill & Jones, 2015). Below is a commentary on my portfolio for creative writing. In consists of three distinct critical commentaries on different writings.
Creative Writing 1: A Commentary on the First Piece of Writing
The first piece of writing was unprofessional, and therefore, I decided to use slang and casual language and phrases in the text. For instance, the word "kinda" was used to express the possibility of an event in the story. The decision to use such a phrase or word. As a writer, is the fact that the writing was never meant for publishing. Instead, it was meant to channel my feelings and response to the changes at the expense of pouring them out to other people. Even so, I am unsatisfied with the fact that the writing was utterly unprofessional. It was undeniable that writing is marked countless grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, poor structure, and sentence arrangement. The most significant example illustrating poor sentence structure is the statement, "I felt relieved." Instead, I ought to have written a simple statement like, "I was relieved." Even so, I am satisfied that I was able to channel my feelings without any fear of criticism or worry about what people would think about me or my writing. Also, it is encouraging that I have learned how to ensure excellent sentence structure in future writings. Nonetheless, there is nothing to worry about because the first writing is a test to writing abilities in which I am better off because I was able to communicate my points in an orderly manner. Ideally, writing is a process that enables writers to synthesize and exploit metalinguistic properties (Myhill & Jones, 2015). As such, it is impressive that I could put down some of the fundamental writing requirements.
Creative Writing 2: A Commentary on the First Piece of Writing
The writing revolves around blogging, and as such, the piece of writing should concisely communicate to the public. To this point, authorial intentions were to attract readers and channel them down his or her sales funnel. The type of writing, as such, necessitates mastery of language, the flow of ideas and well-chosen words that are free from error (Myhill & Jones, 2015). The most impressive factor regarding the writing is the consistent flow of ideas and content. The content, to begin with, is well-curated and arranged to inform readers the writer's intention. Ideally, a smooth flow of ideas and concepts aimed, to be communicated by the writer, draws readers' attention and hooks them to the story (Tes, 2002). The converse, however, turns readers off, and as such, they lose the morale of reading the story. Another positive and impressing thing is the significant evolution of writing. The quality of writing has evolved in which time spent to come up with the stunning story was quite short. The story is utterly fascinating since all of its components seem to fall in the right place. Even so, I am dissatisfied by the fact that it was still marked by grammatical errors, improper use of tenses, punctuation, as well as poor choice of words. A typical example of poor punctuation regards movement sounds made as <pat><pat><pat>. These footstep sounds out to have been properly punctuated. Likewise, poor word selection can turn off readers since some parts of the writing are too wordy to synthesize the main idea. Also, too much and inappropriately used words make parts of the story lose their meaning and aesthetic values.
Creative Writing 3: A Commentary on the First Piece of Writing
In writing, a multidimensional approach is vital so that the writer can equally address all the audience. One fundamental authorial desire was to address both English and Germans, and this is achievable, but to a lesser extent, in this writing. Ideally, good writing should be backed by the use of multiple languages so that the writer can address a broader audience (Myhill & Jones, 2015). Also, it is important how the writing was properly structured in which the points and ideas, as well as a word that is properly arranged. As opposed to the former writings, the writing is utterly neat, and as such, it potentially attracts readers and makes them easy because reading a well-arranged reading is quite hassle-free (Tes, 2002). Even so, poor selection and usage of words is a significant issue in the third writing. Naturally, poor selection and usage of words can make the readers lose the meaning of the intended life. For instance, the sentence, "John and I didn't come from a smooth life," and, "I met John when he was my senior at the varsity" are quite confusing statements because readers might contextualize them. The case was worsened by the inability to extend the story and also add new characters to the story. The inability to extend the story and add new character destroys the story's consistency and integrity in which it throws off some of the fundamental points and scenes in the story. Even so, it was remarkable how I was able to visualize the actual scene where the events were unfolding, the feelings as well as the situation itself. The latter fundamentally takes the readers into a somewhat similar experience of what the situation was in the actual event.
Conclusion
In writing, there are particular issues and aspects to fulfill to make the story exciting and integrated. The commentaries in the writings, as such, confer some fundamental lessons on creative writing. One of the fundamental lessons learned is the need to create an excellent impression of the story's setting that includes the feelings, situation, and the place where these events unfold. The setting is utterly significant as it informs whether or not a story is excellent and worth reading. Another fundamental lesson regards the importance of a well-structured and planned story. When a story is well-arranged to ensure a smooth flow, readers are excited to carry on with the reading, and the converse of this is true and inevitable. Also, the well-arrangement of stories has to come along with proper sentence structures. Stories that lack proper structured sentences are unreadable because they do not confer any meaning. Lastly, I have learned the importance of ensuring grammatical excellence, alongside properly addressing a particular group, especially the public, in creative writing. In the latter's case, writing an excellent blog fundamentally attract more readers. As such, the ability to address a crowd and keep them glued to the story is a fundamental element. Also, grammatical excellence is a necessary quality because errors and inconsistency use of language throw readers off-balance, and hence they lose interest in the story.
