Teamwork is an essential factor for the success of every firm. The employees are expected to have strong teamwork for effective and faster operation in the firm. For the case of Auto Safety Products firm, the virtue of teamwork does not seem effectively working and in particular between Mike the manufacturing manager and Jill who is a design engineer in the firm. With the realization of better ways of improving production in the firm, the top management has introduced concurrent engineering which aims to eliminate most of the problem that the firm has been facing.
Typically, the two employees have varying experience in the firm. Mike himself has worked in the firm for twenty-two years, and he seems to have understood most of the operation in the firm when compared to Jill who only has had about three years of experience. With the introduction of the new system, both of them are a team working on one of the firm's product. The kind of predisposition which Jill and Mike are taking into conflict situation is the production of the firm's product. As for mike, he has always not been happy with the production of the firm's products. According to him, he finds the engineers uppity and unwilling to listen to the challenges faced by the firm, and he also believes that with his teammate, the same problem is likely to occur. The two individuals have different perception towards the production of toddler booster seats, and therefore it may become quite harder for them to come into agreement. Jill just graduated three years ago, and she firmly believes in the improvement in the design engineering with the application of her skills.
There are different conflict resolution styles. For the case of Mike and Jill, the best conflict resolution style that can best be applied by both is the negotiation style. In negotiation style of resolving conflict, the parties come together and agree on how to solve the issue. It is true that Mike and Jill disagree with the production of the assigned product in the department. Mike has been in the industry for long and has seen how most of the engineers have failed to solve the company problems. He believes in the same for the case of Jill. Jill, on the other hand, is ready to entirely applying her skills in the production of the toddler booster seat. They two individuals, therefore, have to table out the issues together and enhances teamwork among themselves to allow increase level of production of the firm.
If I were Adam, the best way that I could have approached the conflict is by first understanding the cause of the conflict. I would first approach each separately and get his or her point of view towards the problem. Once I have understood the cause issue, I would let them understand the importance of teamwork as one of the strategies. Having made them understand matters to deal with teamwork, I would also take them through a kind of orientation of the individual's task. I may also consider seeking a mediator who properly will be an expert in the field to advise them on the importance of understanding one another's opinions.
Ideally, females usually see themselves getting degraded in the community. For the case of Jill, she is an engineer a post occupied by most of the males. Just as Jill have concluded that Mike is despising her for being young and woman, the feminist approach to this conflict would be more of the same with that of Jill. I believe no other alternative approach would best be used to approach this situation apart for having the parties negotiate.
