Introduction
Music performances for a concert of people are typical, and it requires a stage presence that allows the performer to have enough energy from being exposed to the limelight of a crowd of people. I performed in front of a group of students in a public university on occasion named 'The Kings and Queens.' Its main aim was to nurture the talents of young students and encourage them to adopt it. Before the performance, I had to go through different stages to ensure that my performance was of high quality which is why I chose Kaufman's stages of creativity to ensure that I was ready. I used all of Kaufman's steps and repeated the preparation stage several times before the performance.
Kaufman's stages of creativity include preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification. For a music artist who is willing to create a piece to perform to a crowd, they need to follow these stages as well as Taylor's steps to ensure the work is perfect for their performances. When I was informed that I was going to be one of the performers in the university, I immediately embraced Kaufman's and Taylor's stages of creativity. The first stage was the preparation. I ensured that I practiced enough before the performance day by doing rehearsals several times one month before the big day.
I gathered a lot of information that enabled me to learn a lot concerning performances and how I would use my skills to catch the attention of my audience. I repeatedly prepared until the last day where on the day before the concert, I visited the university and ensured that all the instruments I was to use were in order. My team consisted of a guitarist, a pianist, and a drummer which means that I had to ensure that the guitar, piano, drums, and sound systems were working correctly. This stage was more important than the other steps because of the adequate preparation I made played a significant role in shaping the performance a success.
The second stage was Kaufman's incubation stage, where after a hard period of preparing, I would give myself time to relax and not think about the occasion from time to time. I went hiking with friends and had fun with family after hours of practicing. This stage helped me a lot to become better in creating new skills that I discussed with my team the next day we met and incorporated them into our performance. Incubation also helped me to carry out my social life apart from preparing for the concert. I deleted Kaufman's illumination stage because I knew what I was going to perform from the beginning. I did not have to come up with another idea of what I had to play.
I also used Kaufman's verification stage, where I thought about my audience and what would make them happier about my performance. I crafted my performance in such a way that the students would understand my message and all the requirements I met to ensure that they noticed my creativity. I incorporated this stage with Taylor's elaboration stage, which helped me a lot in providing that I did not leave my work unfinished instead, I ensured that my team and I were ready for the performance. I followed through with the team and ensured that all new ideas I had incorporated for the performance were totally understood. On the last day, I performed in Infront of the students and from the cheers I got, I could tell that my creativity was a success.
