Introduction
Mass media has become the talk of the day, in every place, in malls, airports, hotels and other public areas, television is displayed everywhere. As a result of cheap and easy access to the media, almost half of today's populations is using those platforms as a way of getting and accessing information. Therefore, it has been found that media primarily the television, have been used in communicating on behalf of other concerned parties in the in our society, like government, business firms, etc. (Carvalho, 2007). Therefore, this has raised the controversial question about the credibility of the reports and the information they give. As of late, there has been a lot of concern in the UK television concerning the information they air to its people. The common question raised in the issues concerning their reliability, truthfulness, and accuracy of the information they cover (Bourdon, 2000). It is because; people have moved to the digital world which has made the media coverage change too. As a result, there is much pressure in mass communication industry, as the viewers have kept it on toes in ensuring that all the information they give is credible and has a sense of truth in it. Moreover, the public is aware that; UK media industry has been in the hands of the specific organization since long time ago. This act of the media to be controlled by the few corporations has gone to the extent of dictating the type of the news to be aired in public (Browne, 1994).
The UK is among well-known democratic countries in the world, whereby citizens are free to express their views. In most cases, the government is said to bring a lot of the confusion to the Television presenters on what to anchor to the public. According to the BBC reports, they said that politics and government in the country are the critical problems to the news and television reporters on what to air, because they have special powers which hinder the credibility of the news coverage (Caldwell, 1995).Therefore, the question which transcends here is; what are the issues taken into consideration as a way of ensuring that, their news is credible and accurate.
Theories of Journalism
Liberation Theory in Journalism
In this theory, its central theme is to represent the opposition factors and issues towards the story to be covered by the press and journalists in the UK. Libertarian philosophy based on the philosophical rules related to the rationalist and natural rights of the mass media. Therefore, it explains that human beings have rational personalities who through their unique intellect capabilities can differentiate the truth and lie (Creeber, 2001).Thus, a journalist is ought to be independent and be able to seek credible information, as a way of making sure that, the public gets the best and reliable information. In that case, the journalist will be able to express and select the information they want and air it to the public without any intimidation (Corner, 1992).
The theory of social of social responsibility
In this theory, liberation journalism concept argues that social duties of social media news are in control of the ideas and views of the society, clients and their professional line of their duties. Even though media in many nations are independent, journalist should try as much as possible to avoid confrontations with the society when it comes to the issues concerning the data they provide to the public. In this case, media controlled by the ideas and the opinions of the community; however, the reporters are allowed and responsible for dealing with political and government-related organs by providing the sound information in line with the discussion of the public associated issues (Corner, 1986). As the aspects of the of the objectivity and impartiality continue to transcend in the UK, there has been a lot of increased matters related to the media concerning the biased, false and increase of the propaganda in the media news. As a result, the public has gone and requested national broadcasting media to find the best ways of solving all those issues addressed to them. Nevertheless, according to journalist, they felt that social media especially the television were being controlled by specific individuals to anchor the news according to their wish. Therefore, they concluded that all the information coverage should be gathered, checked and scrutinized by various departments in the media before it aired to the public (Cushion, &Thomas, 2005).
Therefore, as a way of convincing the public about the credibility of the information coverage, televisions have followed the theory known as selective exposure and introduced to their esteem viewers. Now, it means that the audience is allowed to select the information they were not able to listen, read, or view. The reason why they have introduced these preventative measures is that due to advancement in technology, sometimes obtaining data becomes challenging for them to be able to know which information is correct and which is biased. Therefore, through this method of selection of information then, the viewers will be in a better place to disseminate information and know which is correct.
How Television Convinces the Viewers that Amazon Information Coverage is Credible
In this case, the media ensured that the information aired to the public was backed up with credible data acclaim. Hence, a report was attached with real configuration data and figures to show transaction of Amazon with its clients and even an audit on the firm. Such aims at convincing the public that the news was real and credible. The attached audit report reveals the actual pictures of the clients who were doing a transaction at the time operation occurred. Also, they went ahead and extracted several data and even revealing live interviewing episode which was done during information coverage time. Through that way, they were in a better position of convincing their viewers, that the information they had aired was real. The reason why they did the news was that they knew very well if they happen to narrate the whole story without backing up the claims, then the viewers will doubt their information. Also, as a way of justifying that, audit report was credible; the media incorporated real pictures of some of the goods charged and some other illegal, transactions done on behalf of the company. Since Amazon is the trusted company worldwide, most of the viewers could not believe all these information because BBC found a way of justifying their knowledge to the public was real. The reason behind the report was that, according to human psychology, it explained that, human beings are the most sensitive creatures when it comes to believing in specific information (Lester, & Cottle, 2009).
On 18th, January 2018, the British Broadcasting Cooperation television (BBC), aired the news about how Tramp was on his way to do away with Amazon boot sellers in his country. Firstly, Amazon is the most significant and well known online sellers in the e-commerce business. Therefore, according to the argument, the firm encounters theft issues during transaction process hence the need to initiate mitigation measures. The news brought a mixed reaction to the viewers after aired because they were not sure if it was true since Amazon is one of the leading businesses in the US with its branches all over the world. The complaint arising from the broadcasting website entails allegation of increased charges in advertisement of products hence making the television industry benefit more from the accrued revenues. Secondly, still in BBC, in September 2017, the media aired how a prominent British journalist known as Bee obtained working permit in the year 2016. The announcement confirmed that Bee would be back to replace Claudia Winkleman. However, these are just examples of news of the BBC aired to the public, and they brought a lot of mixed reactions to the public.
Therefore, for news anchors to convince the public, they need to present the information in visual form and in an excellent presentable manner. Nevertheless, as a way of ensuring that, all the info they aired was correct, they introduced transparency and openness culture of where they got information. In this case, the openness presented in a manner that opened up to the viewer's opinions on the programs broadcasted in the media. Nevertheless, journalist gave out the two sides of the story as a way of involving their audience to be able to analyse the story and see the truth in it. Similarly, BBC has made sure that, in the process of delivering critical information about the Amazon business, they have perfected their language precision in the reading of the data. The precision of journalist has helped the viewer's rely on the information as accurate and credible since it captures the public attention. In this case, the language they use is always linked with functional analysis and good reporting coverage by fluent and confident reporters (Ellis, 2002). Moreover, in their delivering of news coverage, the media ensures that all the primary data covered in the news is directed to the public without dealing with any party or group. For instance, this information is trying to show the public on how there are other software' introduced in Amazon business; with the same features that lies to people. The media use such strategies in making sure that, they do not get into conflict with any party which can result that has a lousy image in public. Nevertheless, since Amazon is a big business, their viewers ought to know the truth about it, and so they usually ask a question for clarification. Therefore, in response to the public questions, the broadcasting corporations meet customers demand and retain the rate of viewers as fast as possible. Such factors direct broadcasting institutions the explicit details of their information on where they can acquire reliable data such as certified websites. In addition, in addressing the public concerns, journalist relate to people in a friendly manner by welcoming the society ideas with patient. Therefore, using such approach, journalists are in a better position of convincing the public concerning the aired information. Again, if they happen to encounter negative questions concerning media report, journalist do not perceive such ideas as negative but use the information positively, and determine how to respond to the allegations accordingly (Ellis, 2000). Therefore, such factors encourage the freedom of expression that allows the public to channel their grievances to journalists to avert bias and conflicting reported information.
Additionally, as a way of ensuring the information the media gave was credible, they have assured that there are facts in their report they give which are within the context of their coverage. In this case, they do not publish or present their views and opinions or anything linked to social diversity. If the happens to report critical information that opposes the society cultural diversity, thee media would face the danger of losing potential viewers since the public acquires negative perception towards journalist thereby attributing to reduction in revenue collected from the mass media and minimal trust to news anchors (Gripsrud, 1998). In addition, the media strive to ensure that the aired programs are of good quality and have been drawn from the independent source and evaluated to be much credible. Furthermore, the media department is in touch with the public to ensure that, all the information they got is reliable and if they are any problem, they can give the feedback to resolve the cases.
