Introduction
In the current world, lack of teamwork and collaboration among professionals in healthcare organizations is critical to the detriment of providing safe, and effective patient care. Kholed, Hassan, Ma'on & Hamid (2017) proposed that inter-professional teamwork and collaboration enhance patient outcomes and access to healthcare. The paper will expound teamwork and interpersonal collaboration helps in delivering effective patient care, and how nursing informatics facilitates both qualitative and quantitative research.
Part 1
Teamwork and inter-personal collaboration have been shown to improve patient outcomes, such as plummeting preventable adverse drug reactions, decreasing mortality rates, and optimizing medication dosages (Kholed et al., 2017). In other disciplines, teamwork has also been shown to offer benefits to health care providers, such as reducing extra workload and augmenting job satisfaction (Kholed et al., 2017). Bosch & Mansell (2015) stated that adversity and challenges are evident when delivering health care to patients, whether dealing with staff shortage or drug shortage. It is during these difficult moments, that collaboration becomes more important.
There are three significant ways to consider when trying to promote teamwork and collaboration among the working staff and other disciplines. The first way is improving communication and enhancing inclusivity (Center for Management & Organization Effectiveness, n.d). Open and candid communication will assist the staff members to feel more appreciated and will be encouraged to provide more in terms of productivity (Center for Management & Organization Effectiveness, n.d). The second way is managers creating an environment that will help them to unlock their ingenuity and potential (Center for Management & Organization Effectiveness, n.d). The final way is by teaching workers to embrace changes, and developing mechanisms that will help them adapt to the new changes (Center for Management & Organization Effectiveness, n.d).
Part 2
The task of nursing informatics is to study the structuring and processing of nursing data to help in proper clinical decision-making through qualitative and quantitative research (Goossen n.d). An example of qualitative research in nursing informatics is "chronic pain poses great challenges to the American health care system, such as high costs, and high mortality rates from overdoses of opium" (Doorenbos, 2014). An example of quantitative research in nursing informatics involves "An estimated 200 million adults in the United States are affected by chronic pain, with treatment expenses accumulating to $640 billion, annually (Doorenbos, 2014).
Conclusion
In conclusion, teamwork and inter-personal collaboration are effective in providing safe and effective patient care such as dealing with staff shortage. Embracing an open and frank communication will assist the staff members to feel more respected, and will help them to deliver more in terms of productivity. It is the best way to promote teamwork and collaboration among the working staff and other disciplines.
