Healthcare is one of the most critical institutions in society that ensure people live a long and healthy life. The current environmental changes and the new diseases reported each day means that most healthcare facilities are overstrained with patients and research cases. As a result, the leadership should ensure that the problems facing the healthcare facilities are adequately addressed. Since the health and probably the life of people depends on the quality of healthcare service provided, leaders in the sector should ensure that these facilities are operating without any unnecessary problems. Depending on the roles and passion of the leader in any organization, many types of leadership styles can be used to achieve the objective of the firm.
The extensive nature of activities taking place in the healthcare sector requires the application of many leadership styles. First, the medical industry deals with critical issues that affect the survival of humanity in society. It is vital for leaders in this sector to be equipped with as much knowledge and experience as possible for them to make the right decision. It is, however, impossible for one person to have enough skills and expertise to run such a critical sector. As a result, using leadership styles such as democratic allows leaders to tap into a vast pool of knowledge, skills, and expertise from other people. Experts can only make some critical decisions in a specific field within the medical profession. By using the outbreak of caronavirus as an example, a leader should allow most of the decisions to be made by experts who understand how the severity of the disease and how it spread. The last things that any leader in the healthcare sector can do are to be dictatorial. There are a lot of things at stake for one person to run a healthcare sector without involving and seeking the views of other practitioners. Besides being democratic, a leader should be transformational to allow the industry to adopt modern life-changing technological innovations that have improved the outcome of healthcare organizations.
Technological innovations in the field of medicine are the most interesting developments that every healthcare leader should consider adopting in their facilities. Technology makes work easier for medical personal, especially in diagnosing the disease. In the past, laboratory technicians used to spend a lot of time diagnosing illnesses. Today, however, it possible to diagnose diseases within the shortest time possible by using modern test equipment. Besides, diagnosis, advanced technologies have made it easy for medics to perform complicated medical treatment such as surgery with ease. For example, it is currently possible to conduct team surgery on patients using 3D technology while surgeons are located far away. The use of video conferencing in medicine can allow patients to consults medical specialists who are located in different parts of the world. Even though the initial cost of installing modern technological equipment may be high, the investment is worth making. The other benefits associated with the adoption of modern medical technology is that the healthcare facility can serve many patients per day, thus increasing the economy of scale in terms of the overhead expenses paid to medics. It would be wrong for any leader in the health care sector to ignore the use of technology in their facility. From the above discussion, it is evident that the best leadership to adopt in the health care sector is the democratic style because it enables leaders to tap into a large pool of knowledge and skills. At the same time, leaders should be passionate about the application of modern technology in diagnosing and treating their patients to increase efficiency and reduce the cost of running their facilities.
