Introduction
The night had come, and the darkness had arrived. My parents had embarked on a 'business trip' all day. Sitting alone on my bed, I could see the moonlight shining through the windows casting a reflection on my wardrobe opposite. Mugs and plates that hadn't been cleaned up lay on the floor cold and stained with coffee. I was home alone for the night, the sense of loneliness overwhelmed me. The house was dead silence except for the intermittent creaks and moans.
All of a sudden, a strange noise coming from downstairs broke the constant silence that seemed never to shut up. Huddled up in a heap of jeans and my blankets, I lied on my bed utterly terrified. It was almost like one of those scenes in a typical horror film. I repeatedly told myself that everything was going to be fine and that I was being paranoid.
After a while, I gathered enough confidence to get out my bed to check out where the noise came from. I could feel the hair of my skin slowly rising, as I cautiously walked across my room towards the dull grey colored door. As I opened the door, a creaking sound sent a shiver down my spine. It sounded like an animal dying, crying out hopelessly with its last breath. The corridor was dark and empty.
I stood in the corridor for some time hoping that the sound could stop. Actually, it got noisier and louder. Then it changed to someone moaning. I hurried back to fetch my torchlight and switched it on. I could not see anything except for the walls of the house we were living. The night was dark, gloomy and silent except for the parking lights outside. So ideally, these were not the conditions I expected after my parents went for the business trip.
I decided to go and check what could be happening. "Could it be an accident?" I asked. As I approached the main gate, increasing my walking speed, I got a bit frightened. Then suddenly there was pin-drop silence. I could not hear anything besides for my footsteps and another behind. Yes, I heard another footstep behind me and looked back. There was no one, so I started walking back to my room.
Looking forward, my eyes caught up with a tall man staring at me. "Where are your parents?" he said as I responded shivering with a trembling voice "They... My parents went on a business trip". I was deeply frightened For once I couldn't breathe and felt as if someone was chocking me. My health raced so fast and what I wished was the earth could open and swallow me alive. But that could not happen, it was impossible. It seems as if this was the end for me.
He held my hands closed and tied me up as he led me to the house. Then suddenly there was a blackout, and all the lights went off. Again there was another footstep approaching our house. It became louder and louder, and this gave me an idea that other people were coming closer. I was under siege. They started moving from room to room searching for money, jewels or anything that could change for money. I was tied and could not scream for help. I dared not. Every time I heard them coming towards where I was, my heart beat increased. Outside, I could hear dogs barking. This was the night I was robbed.
