Globally, immigration has been attributed to the search for educational, financial, or employment issues as well as social and personal freedom. However, as immigrants seek to escape poverty, war and other traumatic experiences in their home countries on route to greener pasture, they are vulnerable to social exploitations like prostitution. Human trafficking is a violation of human rights but in the modern age, different forms of immigration are taking revolutionized forms to hide the essence of slavery and criminalities associated with moving people. There are many ways of perpetrating human trafficking which include the use of force, fraud, coercion, and or abduction. The video "Prostitution Along Immigration Routes" presents recruitment, transportation, and relocation of people for commercial sex especially women. Prostitution becomes a frightful reality for females seeking to get away from the social, cultural and economic status in their home countries (Crossman, 2013). In the bid to escape desperations and neediness lead women to vulnerability to misuse, exploitation, and sexual harassment as they take unexpected choices to alleviate their living status. This paper will discuss the video on the "Prostitution along Immigration Routes" in reflecting social structure theories.
In the hierarchy structures of the society people from different levels of socio-economic status engage in social structural theoretical frameworks. The economic strength increase as one goes up the social hierarchy based on the socio-economic status of individuals. Traditionally, people on the lower levels of the socio-economic hierarchy pyramid experience economic constraints and lack reputable social positions causing them to be exploited by the people in higher socio-economic levels. The middle and higher level social structures exploit the low-level individuals whom out of desperations and struggle to better their lives are willing to do anything to change the circumstances in their situations. As everybody in the social struggles to maintain their status in the social structures the weaker members of the socioeconomic hierarchy get oppressed and exploited as well as exposed to social ills that limit their progression in the society. The social structural theories dictate that for progression to take place in social stratification mobility requires access to agility agents like education and growth opportunities. However, the social conflict that exists in social structures limits or denies the access to social mobility agents. When people in low social structures are confined in their desperate situations they tend to look for easier ways out of their social frustrations, inequalities, and poverty through deviant and criminal means. Others look for social mobility by migrating from their home countries or towns to greener pasture where they are promised better opportunities for socio-economic growth or cultural protection.
The emergence of social structures exposes people to the low level of the pyramid to be trafficked and exploited. Women and young children fall victims of human trafficking and land in the hands of sexual exploitation and introduction into prostitution. Social structure theories can be used to explain the trends of sexual exploitation and prostitution as many women get tricked into these professions out of social-economic needs. Women from underprivileged countries try to escape the unimaginable poverty in their home countries to seek better opportunities overseas especially in America and Europe. These innocent women end up suffering in the hands of exploiters who turn them into sex slaves and prostitution. The video "Prostitution along Immigrant Routes" covers the twenty-first-century social ills in the social structures because of the emergence of middle and low-level social level status and a few rich people in the third world countries as well as growing number of the population in the low levels. As the people struggle for limited opportunities to move upward in the social structure ladder they end up taking on desperate measures where success opportunities are limited (Crossman, 2013).
Sociological theories help explain the social changes in the society. The theories are used to describe the tenets of social living in the efforts of human nature to improve their social status and the society as a whole. The relationship between sociological theories and the tendencies of immigrant women engaging in prostitution-related activities increases the principals of social learning theory, need hierarchy theory among other social structure theories postulated by earlier philosophers in their bid to understand the existence of social vices and immoralities in the society. Different social structural thorniest have explored the common instigating factors that push people to behave in the ways they do when in certain situations in life. The fundamental changes in life make people go for extreme measures to solve first-hand needs to satisfy their more pressing needs as they progress in the social structure hierarchy in the society. Therefore, social structure theories are subjected to widen the range of challenges to respond to skepticism of social life.
Prostitution along the immigration routes covers the sex and human trafficking as a rampant problem across the world recently. Traffickers take advantage of the social structures in the countries facing rampant incidences of unemployment, poverty, helplessness, and substandard educational opportunities to kidnap, force, coerce or trick unsuspecting women into sexual exploitation as they are lured into better and promising escape route through immigration to promising countries abroad. The trafficking rings exploit women emigrant women are forced into sex slavery and prostitution. Prostitution becomes a terrible reality for women seeking to escape their current sociocultural and economic strains (University of Phoenix, 2013). Many women engage in prostitution as a form of repayment to the human traffickers who promise to give them illegal entry into a foreign land with promising better opportunities. Their current situation places them vulnerable to the high bids promised by traffickers as they try to better their social structural positions out of poverty.
In the video "prostitution Along Immigration Routes" female immigrants constitute to fifty-four percent of the number of immigrants worldwide. A majority of the immigration cases are illegal forcing the women to engage in forced immorality, prostitution, and sexual exploitation. As the women engage in prostitution to pay for their trafficking fee, the video says that an estimated four hundred and sixty illegal immigrants died while closing the desert between Mexico and the United States in the year 2005. This was only one of the many incidences that illegal immigrants face on the migration route to a 'better' future ahead in the foreign country. Therefore, social structure theories help to understand the circumstances revolving around the illegal immigrant. Immigrant women leaving their native countries encounter social disorganization and cultural deviance that require social structure theories to understand the challenges and risks faced in the high criminality in the foreign communities (University of Phoenix, 2013). The deteriorating social structures disorganize social and cultural deviance because they hope to survive the ordeal of hiding from the law and make ends meet in the new countries they are seeking to break the social bondage in poverty. The challenges and social exploitation faced by immigrants' place them under social stigma because of the unjust treatment in the upcoming opportunities in the promising greener pastures.
Social structure theory is a fundamental social theory that hypothesis the different social structure elements. The society influences the changes for the reasons why crimes are committed in social interaction. Social structure theories principals suggest that socio-economic problems dictate that people will tend to try to fulfill their immediate needs as they are looking to obtain financial and social stability. The elements of social structure theory include social disorganization, cultural deviance, and structural strain to explain why immigrant women will engage in socially unacceptable behavior like prostitution because they are looking for financial security, break cultural barriers, and escape social obstacles. The social structure theories postulate that social, financial, and cultural arrangements cause deviance and criminal conduct. Crime and deviant behavior are traceable among the people in the lower societal levels of social structure (U.S. Department of Justice, 2013). The immense strains, frustration, disorder, and stress among other chaotic situations happening to people living in low-level social class and less fortunate members of the community leading them to form and engage in different institutes of criminalities. The social structure theory states that people's experiences and frustrations to pursuing their American Dreams they end up entering into some sort of deviance as a rebel repercussion or criminal activities as a form of compensation for their strains. The application of this line of thought in the video the poor women free from their native countries to look for better opportunities in host countries were they enter illegally to cut down on the cost of legal migration procedures. Many people in strenuous backgrounds want to gain from human trafficking processes in the promise of better chances to change their life situation at reduced costs but end up in the hands of exploiting prostitution trades. When women leave their native countries for promising jobs abroad they are none suspecting for the hidden ordeal they face ahead, they are either sold into brothels or forced to engage in prostitution acts as compensation for their illegal documentation processing.
Worse scenarios dawn to reality when immigrant women find themselves stranded in foreign countries homeless or under constant contact with their exploiters to keep them safe from the hands of law or worse enough when they are placed under brothel care to secure reliable housing and other social amenities provided. The fear of deportation and other challenges under legal procedure dealing with illegal immigrants place the women in compromising situations where there adhere to anything they are demanded to engage in to secure their stay abroad (University of Phoenix, 2013). Prostitution Along Immigration Routes show that prostitution is regarded as a business or practice of engaging in sexual relations for payment and other benefits. The vices and moral decay shows that the social structure theories improve criminality and another social disgrace like contracting sexually transmitted diseases or even HIV of the victims of sexual exploitation. Immigrant women do not necessarily enter into prostitution willingly but are either tricked or forced into using their bodies to gain favors from their trafficker or illegal hosts abroad as the ways of earning their travel documents or basic survival in migration countries. The video reveals sad statistics that many immigrant women leave their native countries in pursuit but never set foot in the destination countries like the United States and Europe.
Conclusion
The primary subject of the video prostitution Along Immigration Route talks of feminism and the exploitation women face under the hands of traffickers. The video describes how women from poor countries and low social economic backgrounds sell their bodies in exchange for travel documents or other basic needs for survival in their host countries. Human trafficking is il...
