Introduction
Gorgias refers to a Socratic type of dialogue that was written by Plato sometime around 380 BC. This type of dialogue generally depicts a conversation that exists between Socrates and a group of sophists during a dinner gathering. The fundamental theme of conversation is on the key aspect of evil and good deeds within society. Evil and good are dichotomy in life. According to Gorgias's point of reasoning, society has two distinct types of people that are good and those with evil thoughts. During the conversation, it is clear that people who seem to be evil in most cases have ill intentions towards their fellows.Gorgias also believes that it is sinful to convince other people to think in immoral personalities. Gorgias also believes that both evil and good are incompatible. It is essential that people enhance good practices among their fellows. Good people tend to be happy while evil people have negativity in their thought.Besides, Gorgias affirms that good people have fundamental positive life characters and have a good understanding that every person is important and deserves some level of respect and being cared for in any aspect of human life. The paper seeks to examine the conceptual and logic problems related to the two fundamental ant hedonist arguments as put forward byGorgias's in their conversation on the evil and good practices within the society and different aspect of human life.
Key Difference between Evil and Good in Line with Gorgias' Dialogue
Good and evil in every aspect of life are always incompatible. Being good involves doing justice to other people regardless of their origin or ethnic background. Gorgias also put it clear that it is fundamental that the manner that people receive treatment from their fellows should make them realize the need to do what is good and the reason to avoid a bad aspect of life or evil plans that are likely to cause harm to other people. It is about the ability to deal or to relate with other people without necessarily considering their negativity or their originality. Gorgias affirms that good people will never fail to be somewhat useful to their fellows. In life, happy people experience a different state in life as compared to that of unhappy people.
Similarly, in the same context of evil and for the good people who have different perception about life. Gorgias also argues that happiness and unhappiness or evil and good have distinct features and are opposite just like sickness and health. In life, one should not be good for other people while expecting the same type of kindness from other people. Similarly, Gorgias also argues that a person can experience both pleasure and happiness at the same place and at the same time. On the other hand, it is not possible for the same person to experience evil and goodness at the same time given that both have distinctive features and characteristics.
Additionally, justice is a fundamental avenue behind which every individual should seek to portray in life. On the other hand, some of the possible examples of evil practices as discussed by Georgia's include stealing. Stealing is one of the most common types of behaviors that seem not to be good. Stealing, for instance, is all about taking away another person's personal properties without necessarily seeking opinion from his or her side. Stealing, for instance, is an evil act in which the punishment is prison. Besides, Gorgias also talk about killings and murder, which are all examples of evil acts. Evil people will always have negative thoughts based on the manner that the reason and their characters. It is important that people learn how to mind their business and the kind of language that they use to address issues. Moreover, Gorgias seems to have a fundamental belief of working hard toward enhancing his own satisfactory needs and desireNevertheless, the dialogue demonstrates the Gorgias's complexity in bringing unity among people who have a steadfast belief in doing wrong is better that shameful. There is a passionate critic of justice, which is based on arguments from the three people involved. The theme of philosophic, rhetoric and justice is demonstrated in bringing a completely coherent thing. Everyone's thought is accountable as they all have different views and suggestions.
The difference in Opinion between Socrates and Gorgias during the Dialogue
Socrates argues that it is not evil to do a wrong thing to avoid a shameful environment. It is necessary to make a mistake rather than shaming oneself. On the other hand, Gorgias seems to disagree with Socrates arguing that engaging in wrong choices is unethical and unacceptable. In the Gorgias's dialogue, people should learn the best manner that seeks to differentiate them from other creatures or animals by behaving in the best manner that gives them some level of dignity in all that they decide to do with their lives. Based on Georgia's aspect of reasoning and key understanding of human values, people who have evil thought have little concern for other people and might not be willing to render their fundamental services. One should also learn to be of great value in society by assisting other people to have a positive and good life.
The greatest evil to trouble a human being is when having a false opinion about justice, as many people tend to behave. Gorgias is the center for justice as the virtue character. The good thing is that they all accept their differences and unites with a common ground of thought. The critics of justice clear all their unnecessary doubts, as it tends to bring a peaceful coexistence. However, people should not allow others to manipulate them with their critics' ideas. The evil thing in society tends to overlap the good ones since many people believe in them.
However, many people may fail to clear their thoughts ideologically but rather engages in violence. Society is full of people who fail to understand one another due to their egocentric characters. The evils things usually seem to be more appealing than the good ones thus attracting many people. The majority fails into temptations to believe in other people's rather than accepting their flaws. Alternatively, many people engage in injustice actions and do not face the consequences. Besides, such unjust people do not suffer the penalty for injustices thus displaying evil acts within the society. According to Gorgias, it is important that people learn the fundamental societal norms that will govern their operations and ways of life.
