Background Information or Available Alternatives

The success of any company does not just happen overnight. In order to help the Watson Information Technology Services company, I have invented new ideas, research, planning, developing, and executing to kick set off the journey of prosperity. In this spirit, I have made a strong bond with IT department since it acts as the catalyst for the rest of the departments. This department makes it possible for all the policies, and procedures, software, hardware, apps, people, etc. to function together. This is not an easy feat for information technology managers. To be able to effectively implement necessary changes, Watson Information Technology Services will need to develop an effective systems management plan. To build an information systems management plan, Watson Information Technology Services could use Wiseman's framework of strategy development. The Wiseman's framework is composed of five thrusts or moves, differentiation, cost, innovative, growth, and alliance. I have also employed the use of the differentiation thrust or move helps the company to realize that there may be some gaps in the services that they offer and the services that they provide; and focus on those gaps. The cost thrust or move helps the company focus on minimizing their operating costs and causing their competitors' costs to increase. The differentiation thrust or move helps the company to realize that there may be some gaps in the services that they offer and the services that they provide; and focus on those gaps. The cost thrust or move helps the company focus on minimizing their operating costs and causing their competitors' costs to increase.

I have done an authentic analysis and realized that the Watson information technology services industry now has the potential to fund its necessities of providing products and services to their customers and to conduct continued research in order to continue to compete and maintain their competitive advantage hence should reduce the cost of spending in artificial intelligence industry. To be able to effectively implement necessary changes, Watson Information Technology Services will need to develop an effective systems management plan. To build an information systems management plan, Watson Information Technology Services could use Wiseman's framework of strategy development.

The Evolution Watson Information technology Services Company

Watson Information Technology Services is a division of artificial intelligence services, tools, and applications within the world known IBM corporation (Thomas, 2019). Watson Information Technology builds platforms, apps, etc. to increase their customers productivity, customer service, and financial services. Although Watson Information Technology Services is currently among the giants in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry but there are evaluations that they must continuously perform in order to ensure that they maintain or increase their standings. One of those evaluations is to understand their competitive advantage in their industry. To understand their competitive advantage, we will use the Porter's Five Force model; threat of new entrants, threat of substitute products or services, bargaining power of customers, bargaining power of suppliers, and intensity of competitive rivalry.

Threat of new entrants: The threat of new entrants aspects of the Porter's Five Forces model deals with the threat of new companies entering the market (the artificial intelligence market). Watson Information Technology Services has an upper hand on new companies that may enter the artificial intelligence market because not only are their constant independent developments making huge impressions, they are also privy to and inclusive in other developments made from their parent company IBM.

Threat of substitute products or services: The threat of substitute products and services aspect of the Porter's Five Forces model deals with other products and services that are similar to your company's products and services that other companies could offer for a lesser price. In my opinion, Watson Information Technology Services would not be affected by other companies producing similar products or services because being under the umbrella of IBM, they have developed a brand and relationships that has just about secured their spot within the industry. If Watson Information Technology Services were to be affected by similar products or services being introduced to the market, it could be in the area of costs and revenue influenced by internal policies and procedures. This means, if the competitor is able to develop a product or service that is similar to Watson Information Technology Services at a lower cost to their company, they would realize lower expenses and higher revenue, which is the goal of all companies.

Bargaining power of customers: The bargaining power of customers aspect of the Porter's Five Forces model deals with the customers using their power to force the business to lower their prices or provide more products or services for the same price. I can explain this bargaining power as supply and demand. In an industry where the supply of the product or service is greater than the demand for that product or service, the consumers could have a great influence on the price that the companies charge. This is especially true for the markets where there are a lot of companies that are competing with the same or similar products and services. Although Watson Information Technology Services has a pretty tight grip on the market today, this is an area that the decision makers may want to keep an eye on. I say this because the world is rapidly evolving into the world of artificial intelligence and ore companies are making new discoveries every day. If Watson Information Technology Services is not among those making the discoveries, it is a grave possibility that the customers would start demanding lower rates or start trusting and using other companies. This could cause them to lose some competitive advantages.

Bargaining power of suppliers: The bargaining power of suppliers aspect of the Porter's Five Forces model mirrors the bargaining Power of the buyer (CFI Education Inc., n.d.). If the demand for the supplies (materials, labor, transportation, etc.) is high and the availability for the supplies is low, the suppliers could start charging higher rates for their products and services. In addition to raising their prices, another way the suppliers could use their bargaining power is by lowering the quality of their products and services. This is because the suppliers know that the bottom line for the companies is to generate as much revenue as they possibly could; and they could not generate the revenue without the necessary supplies to produce or deliver their products and services.

Intensity of competitive rivalry: The intensity of competitive rivalry aspect of the Porter's Five Forces model deals with how many competitors are in the industry and the strength of the competitive advantage. The rivalry among competitors could course enough pressure on a company that it puts a hindrance on the company's earning potential (Wilkinson, 2013). Competition within an industry could be healthy and beneficial within the industry. Competition among rivalries could cause companies to continuously improve their products, services, policies, procedures, etc. which could create a level of success that the company did not expect. When the discussion of competitive rivalry is on the table it is a natural first reaction to go into a defense made and protect the status that the company has built. However, those companies that view the intense competition as opportunities to improve and grow will more than likely be more successful than their competitors.

Watson Information Technology Services is a branch within IBM. IMB stands for International Business Machines Corporation. IBM Corporation is one of the greats within the technology sector. On January 13, 2019, Hitesh Bhasin conducted a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats analysis of IBM. Below is the result of Bhasin's analysis with additions of my analysis of the Watson Information Technology Services division.
