Introduction
In today's world, the popularity of multimedia activities has been increasing exponentially. Technological ideas have made remote access to online services a reality. E-learning and remote access to online services have been incepted by learning not only institutions but also organizations. The inception of multimedia has facilitated the emergence of sophisticated e-learning methods and remote access to online services (Banfield et al., 2018). In the business world, materials that enable training and development both within and outside the organization are all examples of multimedia applications. That said, the human resource management can incorporate multimedia services and use it to provide e-learning, training, and provision of online materials and development of employees, remotely.
Training and informing and developing employees can be a hard task. However, using multimedia can provide a flexible opportunity for employees to stay relevant. The convenience of employees accessing online materials is enormous (Banfield et al., 2018). The training and development, which employees engage in during their free time of choice, can turn out to be productive in their workflow. This platform also allows the employees to conveniently revisit materials and services (Banfield et al., 2018). The availability of global and diverse materials can change the worldview and the perception of specific aspects among the employees. The incorporation of videos, voice, and texts increases the quality of services discharged.
The use of multimedia in the business world is substantial and, thus, indispensable. However, some disadvantages are associated with it as far as the development and training of employees in organizations are concerned. One of the significant obstacles, perhaps, is the cost of implementing the resources (Banfield et al., 2018). The consolidation of different resources into one medium, in addition to the electronic devices required to power this technology, can be quite costly. Again, down looking at the incredible number of computer illiteracy while implementing the multimedia system to initiate a systematic staff development in an organization can be indecisive (Banfield et al., 2018). To those who have little knowledge about computers, understanding the platform can be challenging. Due to the lack of face to face interaction, some employees may underestimate the consequences in the virtue of not facing the trainers and other employees as well. To multimedia platforms that are not interactive, the quality of the training and development of employees can be of poor quality since some platforms (Banfield et al., 2018). All these risks pose a serious threat to the development of the employees and the continuity of the business.
Budgeting is significant in implementing the program. The estimation should be done before the process of implementation to set the record straight for the board members. Budgeting of employees' training and development may justify capital expenditures and the time spent since training is based on 'average person' (Banfield et al., 2018). It is imperative to put in mind that the estimation of the budget may be erroneous, especially in this case, where the training and development are complicated and, at the same time, new. The budget can be flexible (Banfield et al., 2018). This will enable adjustment in cases where more information is needed. In instances where the resources required are not available, it is imperative to engage all stakeholders in the decision making process.
Various factors can affect the implementation of the training and development of the staff. These factors range from external to internal. The external factors include; technology, economy, competition, and customers (Banfield et al., 2018). The anticipated approach should correspond to the current environmental ideas. Otherwise, the effect on the training and development of the employees can be inconsequential. The strategy should consider the status of the economy before initiation. The methods and policies that are used by adversaries in training their employees should also be put in play. Considering adversaries' ways may help the organization achieve a competitive advantage. Since customers are the most important stakeholders of any institution, their views and opinions can play a significant role in the approach. On the other hand, internal factors include; the budget, stakeholders, project members, demand, supply, and the vigilance of the employees (Banfield et al., 2018).
Different organizations that have bought the idea have made a significant difference in employees' productivity. The approach has facilitated knowledge acquisition and thereby empowering employees to attain individual best. The approach has been a powerful tool for increasing learning effectiveness, decrease the cost of training, and provide diverse teaching materials across the progressive business. Different features of multimedia training and development achieve enormous quality, the satisfaction of customers, few cases of employees' turnover, productivity, and profitability (Banfield et al., 2018).
In any progressive business seeking long-term development, the use of such an approach can be prudent to consider. This is because of the substantial benefits that come with the execution of the approach. In a society where technology is revolutionizing every aspect of our life, leveraging new ideas and implementing a systematic staff development can take the productivity of employees to another level (Banfield et al., 2018). Companies around have had a hard time achieving little cost of productions. Poor quality of employees has led to the collapse of many businesses.
The means and methods used by various companies in training and developing their employees have been unsubstantiated by the poor quality of their services to the company. Customer intimacy has been a nightmare to companies whose employees deliver low-quality services. For any business to withstand the test of time, it is recommendable, first to address these issues. This approach turns out to be the silver bullet to mitigating some of the problems businesses are encountering today. The approach is on record in minimizing the cost of training and development among employees, providing diverse and reliable information, and defining the business success of an organization. Human resource management should embrace the approach in training and developing their employees to increase their productivity and keep the dreams of business success alive.
