Globally, abortion continues to spark controversial debates on whether it should be legalized and under what circumstances should it be procured. Most medics and the abortion proponents argue that it should be the option of last resort where it is indeed proven that both the unborn and the mother are at a risk of dying. However, despite legislation, abortion still remains a challenge as rogue medical personnel offers the same services while concealing their identities. Most of these illegal abortions are sought by teenagers who fear the wrath of their parents. For instance, a teenager who is not fully aware of her menstrual cycle patterns, courtesy of inadequate sex education, engages in unprotected sex and only come to realize later that they are pregnant for someone. A young teenage girl in such a situation will definitely be suffering psychologically and this may force her to seek help for others. Unfortunately, she may fall into the hands of the wrong person and thus get the wrong advice. On the other hand, there are those teenagers who realize when it is too late to risk with abortion, that they are pregnant, or their parents are already aware of the pregnancy and advise them to keep the pregnancy. Such teenage girls may undergo counseling and cope with the circumstance that has already begotten them; however, the upkeep cost of the teenage girl, as well as that of her child, is borne by her parents. This can be attributed to the fact that the teen does not have a personal source of income. Nonetheless, the girl is forced to drop out of school since she cannot be able to attend to both roles concurrently. This automatically makes her lose track from her fellow age mates who remain in school studying. At that this point, it would be a delicate situation to resume school even after the born baby acquires enough strength to require less attention; there is a possibility of being mocked should she go back to the same school she dropped out from.

Lastly, technological advancements and the ease in its accessibility have done more harm than good in situations where its use has not been censored among the youth. Teenagers have used it to access pornographic videos which they eventually use as reference points when engaging in illicit sex. Being a major source of information, most of the teenagers have misused contraceptives such as the emergency pills in a bid to keep pregnancies at bay. Continued uses of these contraceptives alter with hormonal balance in the body which may turn out to be disastrous. These hormonal imbalances may cause complications such as ectopic pregnancies or cause infertility as well; this is not a situation one would admire as long as they have adequate knowledge about it.
