Introduction
As I grew from childhood to adulthood, I had a desire to be a counsellor for addicted teens. My interest area was helping the teens facing addiction through leading, motivating, and influencing them to change for a better future. Many teens that abuse drugs and become addicted later in life face various disorders such as anxiety and depression, which made me settle on the option of persuading them through effective leadership, motivation, and positive influences.
However, the attitude of the career path that I wanted to follow changed in my adulthood as I grew more interested in a career as a mental health assistant after I acquired additional qualifications such as strong communication and interpersonal skills. Over the years, especially in my adulthood, I also developed compassion for working with challenging patients, which made me change my attitude and adopted a career towards mental health.
I am a helper, and this has played a major role in helping me strive to dedicate any work that I do to the service, care, and inspiration of other people. This attribute has helped me develop my career in the mental health department with a dedication to helping the patients change their mental states. I am driven by work values and have a motivation acquired from an aspiration to ensure that the world is a better place than I met it. The needs of the people that are around me are a motivation for me as they help me gain satisfaction in attending to the needs of various people.
My top job tasks are providing assistance to people, counseling, advising, and teaching mental health patients as well as providing necessary services. My core values are that I cooperate with others, provide services to patients, altruism, compassion, and connection. I am compassionate, helpful, generous, friendly, and patient, which allows me to work better in the health setting that I chose as I transitioned to adulthood. I am less of a builder and a thinker and more of a helper, organizer, and persuader.
The outcomes from the Holland Code Career Test were consistent with my current career path as a Mental Health Assistant because the building is not important in my career path. My career does not involve the use of tools, physical skills, and machines, as well as plants and animals. The rate of thinking, as is shown in the results, is consistent with my current career because, as a mental health assistant, I will not be required to take part in any research and intellectual inquiries.
Helping is necessary for my current career because it involves teaching, coaching, and providing service to other people. Persuading power is important for me in leading, motivating, and influencing my patients to change their behaviors. Organizing is not important for my career path because it involves the management of data, processes, and information, which makes it consistent with the test results.
What surprised me the most about my results is my rating in organizing because I expected it to be higher than what was listed. I complete tasks with accuracy and precision in the management of data and processes, which is why I was not satisfied with the results. Taking career inventories like the Holland Code Career Test is not a good predictor for career paths in the future because individuals are capable of changing their behaviors at any time of their lives. When the career test is used to predict the future careers of an individual, it may discourage them from improving and choosing better paths in their careers. An example is that career inventories can show low ratings in communication and discourage an individual from improving hence destroys future careers.
