This paper will briefly discuss the character of a “working woman” in our society.

Questions in the Movie

The first question is, can women have it all? In our current society, it is not easy to undermine her woman, who knows her right. Women have become role models in so many areas, such politically and in organizations. In the film "The Proposal," Margaret portrays a strong character in her work. She fights those people who want to take her job and goes to the extent of firing them. She holds up the position of a senior editor, which is a role mostly dominated by men. Margaret does not listen to any crap that people are saying she proceeds to propose to Andrew and marries him. Proposing a man in our society is like an abomination because, on many occasions, it is a man who proposes. Therefore, a woman can have it all regardless of what society dictates or barriers.

Our cultural society does not fully support equal opportunities among men and women. It has caused the rise of gender inequality in society. Gender inequality can be defined as the process in which people are exempted from opportunities due to gender issues. The transformation of gender equality began in the 20th century up to date, but some people still hold their beliefs that women should be subordinate to men. Women are the most affected gender when it comes to job opportunities or holding up various positions in our society (Perrons and Plomien 297). The society has failed to empower women in the social and economic imperative.

For example, in the world, a third of the girls are excluded from attending schools and forced to marry at a young age. However, only 18% of women hold on parliamentary seats (Nations 14). Also, these women live with the fear of losing their jobs or being undermined by their colleagues. For instance, in the film Margaret always feared that some people wanted her job; therefore, she develops a character of terrorizing any predator. She also ensured people fear because, in many instances, ' women are viewed as a weak gender. If our society ensured gender equality exist, women could not fear to be in power or holding up big positions.

Gender Stereotype Characters

Many media managers create films with a gender stereotype character. These characters leave viewers thinking about a member of a particular group. The stereotyping in a film involves giving a certain quality to a particular actor. For example, if it is a female, she may be given a positive or negative quality. In the movie “The Proposal, "Margaret has a stereotyped behavior that shows that girls in romantic comedy movies can be fearless and face male opponents without any problem. The display of fear is an example of a feminine stereotype.

In this film, viewers are expecting the female to remain fearless and strong. Over the past decade's films, stereotyped women as helpless and fearful, but as the world is changing, women are given characters that portray them as strong people. Margaret is an example of a such character. She is a strong, fearless woman in the publishing company; no man can dictate her what to do. Even when she is at the edge of getting fired, she looks for a way to save her position and job. Hardworking is also a stereotyped behavior that women fall into the proposal film. For example, Margaret is a workaholic at her workplace while Andrew’s mother and grandmother are very hardworking people in Sitka.

The film explores the question we can have it all in a wide context. It shows how the world is changing and how society is slowly adapting to the changes. Equalism is the only gap dragging our societies behind, but since most people are exposed to education, the gap is almost fading. The film shows no biases at the workplace, and there is no specific position for men or women every person can have it. The film explores that no situation is permanent. For instance, Margaret was a senior editor while Andrew was her assistant, and after their marriage, Andrew rose to become a senior editor. The film teaches us to believe we can have it all. A woman can be a mother as well as a top professional holding a powerful position. If our society believes in equal opportunities, we can have it all.

Insights

The following are the insights gained rhetorically after analyzing these types of film. Why is the media so important in these films? Media is important because it gives people experience or a chance. It also tames one image, for example, the television, newspaper, book, and film. Viewers represent the largest aspect of media. Most of the actors use the media experience to understand the world around them. Screen media has many benefits; for example, it can teach youth about work ethic and family values. What is the theme of the film as constructed in this paper? The theme of this paper is gender equality. Women are the most affected gender in cases of gender inequality.

The character of women in this film is self-centered, high-powered, fearless, no-nonsense, educated, and loving. Andrew’s mother is loving to the new bride; she welcomes her openly to Alaska. Annie is very caring. She walks Margaret down the aisle because she has no parents. Margaret portrays the self-centered, fearless, high powered, and no-nonsense characters. Margaret's character causes her co-workers to hate her because she is not friendly. She humiliates her workers to the extent of firing them. For example, she fires a fellow senior editor in the organization. However, she is an educated person because she doesn’t want to lose her career in Canada.

Men in this film are portrayed as weak, patient, and dissatisfied. For example, Andrew is weak because he has stayed for long-suffering as an assistant. Andrew has no right to say anything in the organization because he fears to be fired. This is because Margaret controls everything in the organization, and everyone knows her character .Joe seems dissatisfied by the idea of Andrew marrying Margaret because he always dreamt that his son would take care of the family business. Since, after marrying Margaret it will be impossible because they already have an agreement. Andrew is patient because he waits until they get married to Margaret, and then he is promoted to the next position in the organization.
