Abstract
This thesis demonstrates an interaction design connection between the museum and technology in building modern designs for the museums. Over the years the building structures have scientifically advanced, and the building has become a teaching tool to the community by providing accessibility of content of experience between science and everyday life and provision of more opportunities for engagement. The connection between the building and the visitors through creative and personal ways gives value to the museum. This provides a knowledgeable experience to the visitors that visit the museum of the environment that they live in. Therefore, the interior design of the museum depends on the architectural techniques that can be used by the architects and artists. However, the paper will talk about the design of the interior part using the glasses.Based on the summary of the research and the conclusion that was found, it was seen that the design of the interior part of the museum using glasses was primarily enhanced using the deep primary and secondary research. This means that a lot of research was undertaken that mainly focused on the interior part using glasses. The research also focused on the visitors' satisfaction and the way they are impressed by the glass design. However, the conclusion pertains the general design of the interior part of the museum using the technological glasses that can impress the visitors, and also the materials that are used to enhance the design.
1.0 Introduction
The paper will discuss the design of the interior part of the museum primarily using the glass materials, and also the architectural part that shows the clear overview of the museum. In other words, the architectural design will be set up in a way that will impress the visitors. This means that the museum has to be 'eye-catching.' The architectural part that is the 'eye shape,' will be the main concept since the construction and design of the interior part of the museum will depend on the visitors. Therefore, the interior design of the museum will have to correspond to the architectural design that will impress the visitors. It will also analyze the literature review of the concepts from various sources that support the interior design of the museum using the glasses and its architectural design. The reflection that a glass has is similar to a symbolic structure since there is more to it. Basically, the ability to know what is coming depends on what is before the eye. Beauty, caution, threats, differences, and relation are just but a few things the eye can interpret. The creation of a museum is mainly to let people use their eyes to interpret the data in front of them. Humans are attracted to beauty, creativity, and authenticity. The physical appearance of a museum's design to the eye of the community dictates its success or failure. Therefore, what better way to design a museum than using an eye structure.
2.0 The Aim and Objective of the Thesis
The agenda is to use technology and relate it to how it can take effect when used to construct the interior design of the museum using glasses. Science can also be used to indicate the result of the progress that has been done in the past and what is to come in future. The interior design of the building will show the progressions and evolutions of ideas and technologies. Just as science is changing and evolving, the focus is to use the same theory to design the space in and around the building for various uses other than just learning. The building will be located in a specific position that allows the use of the vicinity for different occasions.
How will people learn and react to space buildings? How can the building be a tool for learning about natural systems for the environment? Are they sustainable for the design structure? Building a museum with a design that does not only look admirable but that also contributes to the environment is a good learning tool for the visitors that visit the vicinity. The designs intended to be used are environmentally friendly. A live machine that recycles water within the building and a solar gain that uses the sun to cool, heat and provide a source of energy for the building are just but a few strategies intended to be used in the design process along with the location of the entrances and exits in the building.
How can a building reflect the advancements in technologies that buildings have embraced today? The building design will capture the technologies used and the sustainability of the building. By showcasing this, the community and those that visit it can use the same idea to build, renovate, and design their own homes.
This thesis emphasizes the creation of space that enhances learning and education purposes. One of the important aspects is that the museum will encompass the glass that will display the species and all the different kinds of life-sciences for the future reference.
3.0 Research Methods Used
As far as the research of the thesis is concerned, several research methodologies were encompassed in the research. For instance, the visit to the museum and gathering the qualitative data regarding the interior design of the museum using glasses. Moreover, questionnaires were also used as a form of research. Several visitors were interviewed regarding their perception of the glass design and what they feel about the architectural design. This was to ensure that the quality data was provided that can be satisfactory and accurate. Therefore, below is the discussion of data collection based on different forms of research methodologies.
3.1 Questionnaires
Using questionnaires was a form of research that was used to strengthen and validate the primary research based on the museum lighting and the use of glass materials to enhance lighting. However, below is a sample excerpt of a questionnaire that was used:
Question: how do you see the interior design of the museum and what is your point regarding its interior design using glasses?
The interior part of this museum is perfect because of lighting. Glasses are fitted perfectly that reflect light. Therefore, I can positively support the use of glasses in the design.
Question: what is your general overview of the interior design of the museum? Has it been developed well?
Yes, this museum is so good because of the physical appearance and the way it was designed. It has a good environment that is suitable for visitors.
Question: has the museum lighting system change your perception?
The lighting system is good, especially the high-tech glasses that have been used in the interior part.
4.0 Results and Findings
However, after finding the relevant data regarding the interior design of the museum and the diverse viewpoints of the visitors, the results were that several people supported the use of glass as a lighting material. This is because glasses bring a bright environment and they reflect the bright future.
On the other hand, one of the findings is that museums use glasses because of their exquisiteness and appearance. It has been seen that most of the people prefer visiting the museums that have been designed with high-tech glasses. Therefore, the general overview is that the interior design of the museum can attract the visitors only if it has been designed using glasses.
4.1 Literature Review
Science is the result of the progress people have done in the past and what is to come in future. The interior design of the building will show these progressions and evolutions of ideas and technologies. Just as science is changing and evolving, the focus is to use the same theory to design the space in and around the building for various uses other than just learning. The building will be located in a specific position that allows the use of the vicinity for different occasions; birthdays, meetings, proms and any other type of gathering.
How will people learn and react to space buildings? How can a building reflect the advancements in technologies that buildings have embraced today? The building design will capture the technologies use and the sustainability of the building. Building a museum with a design that does not only look admirable but that also contributes to the environment is a good learning tool for the visitors that visit the vicinity. By highlighting this, the community and those that visit it can use the same idea to build, renovate, and design their own homes. This thesis focuses on the qualitative and quantitative feature of museum lighting design as advancements in technology and the changes it can make in a building space. The design of the museum guides visitors in discovering, exploring, and learning about history in an inspired environment. "Lighting plays a significant role in developing interaction between humans, museum artifacts, and the environment in one defined space" (Egan, 2009). The museum aims at providing an interactive experience for guests and preserving the artifacts conditions.
Lighting is a crucial component of the museum because visitors can see the objects on display, experience new sights, and respond to surrounding environments. The environment typically has two types of light; artificial and natural. Light in a museum creates an atmosphere key for discovery and artifacts preservation. The balancing act between attaining preservation needs and establishing interactive experiences that meet the goals of the museum can be very difficult to maintain. Illumination Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) offers standards and parameters for lighting design necessary for museums to ensure safety, artificial preservation, and interactive involvement for guests of all ages. This literature review encompasses aspects, both qualitative and quantitative, of lighting in a museum
Considering the extent of importance, designers should work towards enhancing the psychological and physical environment due to the visitor's perspective of the interior space. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to improve the applied design principles to better the object presentation in museums. What ways can light change the view of the interior space? What are the different types of lighting designs? Are there limitations to these lighting designs? We shall be discussing these questions in this review.
With primary and secondary research methods, one can get to know the perception of different types of lighting designs. Data collection was done by various guests of various ages concerning their comfort, discomforts, and preferences towards the lighting in the three museums assists in deciding on the best lighting design. The research also included related topics. The research included literature discussion of choice considers which lighting design best suits a museum's architecture and the type of lighting that sustains an environmentally responsible product. These decision-making processes are at times influences by an architect or designer's cost, style, and availability.
As much as visitors are the museum's end-user customers, the distributors, contractors, and electrical engineers have a big influence on the decision necessary for lighting designs and types. Literature that expounds on the barriers and motivations of these non-residential influences has to be included in purchasing, installing, and specifying on high efficacy lighting products.
Some of the data obtained from the various research methods did not support the data hence excluded such as blog posts, thought-pieces, editorials, and company websites. Data that emphasized more on the external design rather than internal was also excluded.
This thesis aims at investigating the influence of lighting in interior design principles on guest's perception. There are various types of museum, therefore, to identify the field of study; historical re-used muse...
