I researched on recidivism and social injustice and the factors that engender social crime and recidivism, the impact they have on society, and ways of mitigating their paraphernalia. It concerns the community on the increase in social crime and a relapse into social immoralities previously abandoned (Diemer et al., 2006). It was from such concern that I saw it essential to research on societal activities regarding recidivism and social injustice.
Most people undergo maltreatment from those who are in a position to help, such as the wealthy, privileged, and in authority, take advantage of their statuses. Persons released from correctional facilities found it difficult to integrate back into society due to various factors such as stigma originating from the culture required to accept them. Such reformed felons mostly went back to jail due to a lack of awareness and information regarding the treatment of criminals released from prison, and they relapsed into their previous misconduct (Opotow, 2011).
I drew so many skills from this course, such as time management. I had to submit my assignments and projects within a stipulated time. I find this ideal since I will be required to provide my presentations and meet my targets during my professional career. Besides, time management is an essential aspect of developing personal attributes. I had the privilege of acquiring knowledge on the various writing styles, another skill that is vital during the development of my occupation and individual interactions in the social world. It is a fact that effective and efficient communication is crucial in the current digital world in which the usage of information is part of our lives and a productive determinant.
I also attained essential skills in case studies and how to thoroughly and carefully analyze different cases and come up with sound recommendations. Case studies are vital in formulating policies and setting frameworks that enhance the productivity of a firm, an essential skill in management that am sure will develop my managerial and leadership skills.
I had the experience of interviewing people to develop my research paper. Again, communication skills and presentation skills are enhanced through modes of communication, which is one of the aspects of carrying out interviews. Collection of information is also an experience that develops personal and professional skills of a person, and deriving such powers during a course study is in particular helpful. Analyzing and interpreting collected information is vital in the development of several personal and professional skills such as problem-solving, leadership, planning and organizational, and team spirit, among others.
I plan to implement the various skills acquired, lessons learned, and experience gained during and after my volunteer work at the Fulton Company. I also wish to change lives through motivational and life-skills speeches to inmates at the Ga Jail about their release and how to adapt and adopt societal virtues that would be essential in the prevention of recidivism. I hope to advocate for social justice and create awareness that those released from correctional facilities have the right to be given the necessary opportunity like any other person to integrate back into society without discrimination and maltreatment (Maltz, 1984).
It is my opinion that learning more about good governance and the various ethical theories that shape the decision-making process would add more value to my cause and conviction. I believe that social justice is an essential human right that must be championed across the globe to help in equal treatment of people regardless of their race, sexual orientation, age, and sex. Furthermore, I suggest that correctional facilities should provide effective and efficient services that train convicted felon's good behaviors and how to integrate back to society after completing their sentences (Maltz, 1984). Moreover, society needs education on how to handle ex-convicts and provide them with a conducive environment for integration and the feeling that they are part of the community.
