Introduction
I have learned that qualitative researchers have the opportunity to utilize different types of qualitative research approaches when exploring their phenomena of interest to the study. Additionally, I learned that the choice of a particular approach is affected by the nature of the research question. For instance, the phenomenological research design is useful when a researcher is addressing research questions related to participants' experiences on a particular phenomenon (Brixey, Brixey, Saba, & McCormick, 2015; Fetters & Tilson, 2018; Grove & Faan, 2019; Grove & Gray, 2018; Taylor, 2017). Additionally, I have learned that a research approach affects data collection techniques and sample size. For instance, phenomenological studies utilize the interview method of data collection (Hoffding, 2019).
Problems
Even though I have not conducted many interviews in the past, I have crucial interview skills which will make the respondent open up and appropriately address the interview questions. First, I am capable of building rapport with the interviewees. Rapport in interviews makes the interviewee free to address any interview questions without fear (Carter & Lubinsky, 2015). Secondly, I am an active listener. Active listening is a vital interview skill because it enables the interviewer to record the essential aspects of a conversation (Green & Thorogood, 2018). However, I am currently inexperienced in developing interview questions and analyzing narrative data collected from the interviews.
Plans
To overcome the challenges of inexperience and access to participants, I hope to read more material on the construction of interview questions and analysis of interview data. I will utilize the university library resources to accomplish this goal. Additionally, I will seek the help of my professor whenever I encounter any challenges.
