Task B: Impacts of Age on diagnostic yields of Tuberculosis
Background information and Literature review
The original research conducted at the medical university of Warsaw had the aim of discovering the value of the diagnosis of pleural fluid biomarkers in tuberculosis pleurisy. It aimed at assessing the impacts of age on response to the treatment of Tuberculosis. The study involved two hundred 222 patients with at least the median age of 64. The group had various percentages of men with pleural effusion, malignant PE and parapneumonic effusion.
Research conclusion
The study concludes that with the increasing age from six to ten years, the diagnosis ratio of the tuberculosis pleurisy (T.P) decreased. The ratio increased with the increased levels of the evaluated pl biomarkers. This showed that age affected the diagnosis accuracy as the younger patients tended to respond quickly to the medication.
Consideration and Evidence application
The research considered the ethical and legal considerations. The patients were not subjected to any forced study but were informed of the aims and they participated willingly. Given the discovered results, the design of treatment is such that, early diagnosis is recommended. Older patients are required to have a constant check up and follow up.
