Introduction
In the present-day world, people are guided by the perceived gender stereotypes which emerge from the way people believe about gender and gender roles. In most instances, intercultural relationships help in resurfacing the gender stereotypes that offer a challenge to negotiation skills (Heilman, 117). Additionally, sex, gender, and sexuality are sensitive topics in the ancient and current society thus gender roles, the role of the society and the physiological differences between females, males, and intersex are used in arguing the concept of sexuality. The society plays a significant role in shaping the idea and view of sex, gender, and sexuality among the youth hence transforming their overview of the concept of homosexuality and heterosexuality. Thesis: Family influence on the issues concerning sex, gender, and sexuality offers a great influence on the idea of heterosexuality and homosexuality thus affecting the outcome of people's view of themselves and the right way of life.
In Aurora Guerrero's film, she displays how homosexuality is brought about by the roles of parents. In the family of Yolanda, her parents compelled her to avoid temptations from boys without necessarily giving her better directions and why they gave their directions (Aurora n. p). Yolanda, therefore, developed an interest in her female friend Mari and hence overturned sexuality by becoming lesbians. Also, immigration and failure to associate with different ethnic groups made Yolanda and Mari make friends and lack of exposure to male friends which made them take the chance of making an intimate homosexual friendship that was covered by a sexual charge. "I realized my first love was one of my best friend (same gender)" shows that limiting children to associate with both sex leads to confusion in their sex life and turn leads to a change in the natural view of sexuality (Aurora n. p).
On the other hand, gender performance, identities, culture and the misuse of gender roles make women think a little about their freedom regarding the harsh rule of the dominant power of the male gender. According to Fotopoulou (29), Some cultures require women to remain virgins by abstaining from sexual issues until marriage. Otherwise, any woman who messes with her virginity is considered immoral whenever they happen to engage in sexual activities before marriage (Fotopoulou 29). Culture and family commitments offer only three options for women. For instance, a woman is required to either remain a virgin until marriage, become a nun or wait for an opportune time to become wives after a customary process. On the other hand, women grant them a chance to be autonomous by getting educated which most women take considers being a tough one.
It is clear that the kind of family and cultural practices and values contribute a lot in finding the definition of sexuality and the fate of people. On the other hand, family and cultural perspective of sex and sexuality are also determined by religions. For instance, Catholics have loose values in the matter of homosexuality and consider it's a choice (Fotopoulou 19). Consequently, the family offers a great influence on how people perceive sexual activity and people's relationships. The behavior of male gender on the issue of women sexuality contribute to the feeling that women develop that they are worthless before men.
In most cases, the feeling that women develop as a result of gender stereotypes makes them make several mistakes, and as a result, most women make resolutions that diverge from the morals and values of the society. Culture gives men the mandate to judge women who engage in premarital sex to be evil creatures and taken as a prostitute. Consequently, the culture and family influences make women to view homosexuality as a way of avoiding the impending trauma that awaits them whenever they try to explore their sexual experiences before marriage.
Families that are affiliated with religious practices determine the way people view themselves, the idea of sexuality and affect the type of relationships that people make. For instance, most Latin cultures find it better to be a lesbian since it is the only option for a woman to be safe in their society (Westbrook and Schilt 32). Lesbianism is not a big deal in by Catholics thus it is the option that most women take. Therefore, the aspect of most families subjecting pressures on the limiting factors on the issues of gender and sexuality makes it possible for people to change their view of morality according to the values of sexuality. The challenge becomes intense in a manner that a great confusion is brought up concerning sex and sexuality and the worth of people affected by harsh cultures. Espin (84) outlines that most families compelling reasons for abstinence from sexual favors contribute a lot to the mismatch of sex, sexuality and gender roles. The issues are the prime reasons for the widespread of lesbianism and gay marriage in the American nation.
Parents expectations on their children influence a diverse change in the concept of sexuality and sex in children. For instance, Moraga's life was highly influenced by her mother's expectations towards achieving educational goals. As a lady, she was made to concentrate on education while failing to consider her relationships need with the opposite sex. The influence by her family (mother) made her develop a different view of sexuality. Moraga's family view of Chicanos made Moraga avoid associating with Chicano men of which she had half identify with. Family connotations influence associations that people make. For instance, Moraga associated with the Whites who had loose values on homosexuality which is the sole reason for her choice to be a lesbian. According to Moraga (33), Moraga's 7-year association with heterosexual practices contributed to her conclusion that marriage is an illusion and a human-made practice which targets to undermine women by restricting their access to freedom. The statement that "Female sexuality must be controlled, whether it be by the church or the State....... determine when and how women reproduce" outlines that women become activists of their freedom due to the influence that their families impose on perceived behavior (Moraga 21).
Conclusion
In conclusion, family expectations, which are usually affiliated with a set of culture, contribute to the extensive confusion of sex and sexuality. In most cases, the change of sexuality and the overall confusion concerning sexual roles confirms that family constrictions contribute to homosexuality. The American culture has also proven to be the cause of sexual orientations that diverge from the required cultural values and behaviors. It has also been found out that the lack of proper parental guidance contributes to taking wrong decisions concerning heterosexuality and homosexuality appeals among children. The influence of parents on the kind of associations that children should make in their future assumptions of sexual roles and homosexuality.
