Introduction
According to my opinion ethical behavior is an integral part of humanity, imperative to the process of persuasion, and through the transformation process, it influences persuasion and widens the rationality on the persons who are involved in it. In the attempt to persuade the other part, one is usually under influence of ethics. Therefore, ethical behavior is a key component of facilitating healthy communication between two or more parties.
Ethical behavior is the basis for all civilization. George (2014) defines civilization as a forward-thinking state of humanity comprising of extremely advanced systems of government, culture, diligence, and, common social standards. Human beings are governed by the norms of ethics that were formed and they exist within the society. Resnik (2005) asserts that ethics as characteristics of human nature is the only thing that different a human being with other lower forms of life such as animals. Ethics acts as the weighing scale for judging the ethics of persuasion.
The ethical norms that were generated within societies, guide how people are anticipated to act, creating a peaceful environment within communities. In the entire historic period of humankind, the fight has stimulated wars over the human suffrage to bring liberty to the beleaguered individuals.
Moreover, a human being cannot live by the concept of totalitarianism, which Lakoff (2018), claims that it would be correct to lie in any condition, despite the outcome. However, asking humanity to obey this could be too much, but having ground on which required behavior is weighed is fundamental.
Without ethics, people effort to protect themselves from all elements of life would be effortless. The world would be in a total mess, this because even the set laws and regulation by the government would no longer be applied. Yet, according to Curtis (2017), laws are responsible for the maintenance of peace and order within confined boundaries. For this reason, it is significant when people engage in business practices to consider ethics. An example of ethical standard in business is of the Foreign Corruption Practices Act (FCPA) that forbids U.S companies from involving in enticement acts and other practices in foreign nations that is prohibited in America. This policy was formulated to incorporate standards while conducting business with other countries. However, other countries have no obligation but to adhere to the standard when conducting business with U.S based- firm.
The set ethical standards an important play persuasive role in the business world. These set norms are also supposed to be followed by the organizations in order to persuade employees and clients to pursue them. The best way to teach is to lead by example (Van Manen, 2016). Therefore, if a firm goes against the norm it can lead to the destruction of the company's reputation and loss of clients and employees trust and respect. Brands such as Toyota lost the market value of their product because of unethical practices. This is because, it is hard for such brands to convince the customer they have changed after making mistake and it will take much effort to persuade the other parties; proving why ethical behavior is key when it comes to persuading the other part.
Ethical behavior is vital to persuasion, because public communication has a role to be shaped ethically. Emerging of ethics in society has changed the old definition of persuasion to create its accommodation. Therefore, persuasion is no longer perceived as something the one does to the other, but rather with another party (Ghafur, 2016). Persuasion as a process, for it to be prosperous all steps should incorporate ethics. When it narrows down to persuasion, there are many factors to put into consideration. Persuasion is more than sending a crafting message because elements of ethics such as respect, rationale, and, worthy should feature in the message made to persuade the other part.
Media channels can at times sound unethical source of communication. The defense often times a utilitarian one, which is referred by Kagan (2018) is a kind of happiness portion for society- the greatest good for the greatest number. Nonetheless, in the current world, individuals have access to a variety of channels to obtain news, but the moral questions remain to the ethics of it all: if it does "the greatest for the greatest number'' (Kagan, 2018)
Ethics is imperative because persuasion comprises not only of inspiration but as well as the capability of the receiver to process that message and finally arrives at a judgment. Furthermore, it is responsible to obtain out details that valid or invalidate what was awarded to them in a persuasion message. If both parties are not held responsible, thus, the conversion itself cannot thrive. If persuasion is thought from an ethical position, it transforms how peoples 'perceive the process and persuasion. Consequently, it redefines the old persuasion in a way that indicates that if one needs to persuade or transform other parts through communication, he /she should be held liable if people permit deception and corruption to penetrate the view, then persuasion is something that would disassemble the ethical grounds on which civilizations are rooted from.
Conclusion
In conclusion, ethics directs people in the correct route; it makes individuals communicate in a decent manner, by upholding respect and honor for each other. Persuasion as an aspect of the communication process, when merged together with ethics it can be employed impartially. Ethical being the foundation of a civilized society, it is important to persuasion, because, it allows a chance for a decent communication.
