Larry Bird is an American basketball hero and mentor to many people in the world, his love for sports, specifically basketball guided him through the challenges he met in life after his parents divorced later his father died. His passion for basketball made him think positive about life. Apart from getting a degree, he also became one of the best globally known basketball player.

I interviewed Larry Bird early today on his life challenges and how he adopted to the situation through a phone call due to location differences and distances.

Here are some of the questions that I used to guide me through the interview.

1. How did you react to change?

Larry Bird said he was confused since he had no one to depend on anymore.

2. Were you ever afraid of change and why? Did you feel it was safer to stick with what you knew?

He was afraid of the changes because he knew the impact it will leave in his life, but since it was unavoidable, Larry saw it safer to adopt a new life.

3. Did you ever resist change and why? What opportunities were or might have been lost?

Larry Bird accepted the changes in life, and he lost the parental love and guidance since he was only 18 years old when life changed.

4. Describe an unexpected or adverse event that sent your life in a positive direction, down a path you might otherwise have never traveled?His parents divorced, one year after that, his father committed suicide that left him hopeless. Larry as a basketball player channeled all his efforts to practice, and that motivated him to join college and focus on both education and basketball.

5. From your experiences, what are the benefits of adapting to change?

Through accepting the changes in life, Larry focused on basketball and academics; basketball made him famous because he developed skills and became the best player, he also got his degree from the college.

6. Even people who experience good change, such as buying their dream house or getting married, report increased stress in their lives. What do you think about this statement?

Larry agreed with the statement; he said that even after adapting to the new life challenges kept coming his way and at some point, he divorced his wife, and he had to take care of his daughter.

7. What strategies did you need to use to handle change and transition successfully (such as talking it over with people in similar situations)? How did you learn these strategies?

He interacted with people and shared his problems with friends and teammates. On the other hand, Larry Bird confidence and discipline, these guided him through successfully.

8. Change can be fun and rewarding. It keeps life interesting. What changes did you make in life for the "fun of it" (such as learn a new sport, read a new genre of books, find a new hobby)?

When change hit Larry's life before accepting the situation, it caused much pain to him, but he moment he accepted, he realized that It was rewarding. It was through this change that he made him realize his talent in basketball and his ability to perform in school.

9. As a young person, you have grown up with technology. Technology intrudes into everything we do. Just in one day, the amount of technology you interact with is staggering (such as reaching a CSR on the phone to starting a car, programming your digital alarm clock, your DVD/VCR, your answering machine, and using an ATM, etc.). How have you adapted to or had to adjust to the prevalence of technology in our society? What are the benefits of "going with the flow" of technology?

Larry said it is essential for an individual to adopt to technology, for him it was vital in modern daily life since, it helps to do normal thing in unique ways, better, faster, with less struggle and at much affordable rate, however, He claims technology can impact life negatively with not handled with precautions.

10. What changes were impossible to avoid? Do you embrace change?

Larry urged that through several occurrences that he has undergone in life, he has concluded that an undeniable unpleasant fact is that change is a constant process that we all have to adapt to. As people age, they undergo through different seasons in life. Despite the fact, most changes are adverse especially that involves death, not all change is negative. Some are positive such as the arrival of a newborn.
