My search term for this paper is functional foods.
Functional foods refer to the foods manufactured to contain specific components or compounds which provide given health benefit. They are also referred to as nutraceuticals or designer foods.
As part of the search, I obtained ten (10) results. The results were obtained by just typing the keyword to the search engine, and they automatically generated.
Reliable Sources
One credible source that I found as part of my search is "Functional food science and gastrointestinal physiology and function". It is found in the website Cambridge.org under the link https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/british-journal-of-nutrition/article/functional-food-science-and-gastrointestinal-physiology-and-function/0E9D00557E173CB2FE7ADEBE6858FEB4. This article is a peer-reviewed as it is authored by various authors that include Salminen S., Bouley C., Boutron, and Cummings H. The credibility of this source is based on two things. First, it is a peer-reviewed journal and therefore must have been subjected to a comprehensive and a thorough inspection by experts within the field of nutritional sciences before its publication in the website as well as the journal. Further, the nature of the research itself, the data collection and the scholarly reputation of the author more also adds value to the credibility of this source.
Unreliable Sources
Besides finding credible sources, I also found some sources that were not credible. The website where this source is located is known called foodinsght.org. The source, "Functional Foods" has been authored by the "International Food Information Foundation" offers valuable information regarding the Consumer interest in the relationship between diet and health has increased the demand for information about functional foods. The link to this source is https://www.foodinsight.org/Content/3842/Final%20Functional%20Foods%20Backgrounder.pdf. The source is not credible based on the fact that the article is not peer reviewed and is not found in a scholarly recognized website.
Conclusion
Doing this research has improved my understanding of ways of obtaining credible sources from the internet. Notably, doing research requires the use of a keyword or subject of discussion and which automatically generates numerous sources when typed in the search engine. I noticed that some websites have credible sources while others do not. The credibility of the source in a given area is determined by the scholarly experience of the authors, the website and whether or not the source is peer-reviewed by the experts within the same field.
