Introduction

I feel that fining people who do not have the insurance cover should be removed. Since the Affordable Care Act was developed to make health coverage to be more affordable and expand access to medical care, people cannot be fined for not having Medicaid insurance. I think the fine instilled to low-income earners is burdensome and intrusive, thus causing them not to see the value for having a Medicaid insurance. For example, according to the Rand Health Care, the penalty to be paid by individuals who could not enroll for the health insurance was an average of $200 per person. This aspect of paying fines has changed in Trumps' government since people can move to short-term health plans which can grow and compete with the Affordable Care Act coverage. Trump administration allowed Americans to remain in the short-term plans for twelve months since they were a bit cheap for every individual (Berkeley Lovelace, 2018). This aspect has made people renew their care plans twice, thus making it attract more consumers to those opting for comprehensive and expensive Obamacare plans.

The Most Valuable Aspect of ACA That I Would Want to Be Retained

I would love seeing the Medicaid program retained since it ensures the expansion of medical coverage to the poor and low-income families. This program has helped every individual to have accessibility to quality health services, thus promoting people's health. The children with unique medical needs, those living in poverty are covered under the Medicaid program. For example, since Medicaid encourages individuals to work and be employed, rubbing off this program will have negative impacts on the United States vulnerable and low-income individuals. Also, tampering with this program will affect medical coverage for children whose guardians or parents acquire coverage through the Medicaid program. Therefore, Trump did not tamper with the Medicaid program, and his goal was to spend $1.5trillion in the program rather than allocate $1.2 trillion on other grant programs in the United States (Tara, 2019). This showed that Trump had valued the Medicaid program due to the services they provided to the United States citizens.
