My Model Musician
For a long time, I have searched out for an appropriate role model in music career but never found one. Now I have the best of them all! Antonio Lucio Vivaldi is a music composer who was born in Venice, Italy, on 4th March 1678 (Fish, 2015). His family consisted of his five siblings, mother, Camilla Calicchio and father, Giovanni Battista Vivaldi, who was a violist aside from being a baker and a barber. Antonio works as a musician, teacher and composer in different places in Europe (Fish, 2015). He inspires my musical dream because his religious background did not pin down his musical aspirations, as is the case with many people (Fish, 2015). Also, he is reported to have suffered from respiratory diseases which even made him stop leading Mass because they brought to him body weakness, dizziness and speech problems.
Antonio was ordained as a priest in Venice in 1703, but then a year later, he had already earned a title of being a violist, musician and composer (Fish, 2015). Antonio uses the Baroque musical genre to compose and sing his songs. Although he does not perform his compositions in big concert halls, he is highly appreciated and esteemed by Pio Ospedale della Pieta, the female orphanage where he is employed (Fish, 2015). In the orphanage, Antonio does the work of teaching the girls how to play the violin. He also composes the music that the institution's choir plays and even performs with them in most instances. The people especially applaud him for his mastery in Baroque music, with The Four Seasons being his best work (Fish, 2015). Nature influenced this masterpiece as Antonio uses it to describe the four seasons: winter, autumn, summer and spring.
Antonio Vivaldi's work is an inspiration to me as an upcoming musician in his time. It has always been my desire to specialise in music genres that use the violin in their performance, especially Baroque music. However, all along, I had never been able to trace a successful violin-played music history till the time that I came across Antonio. It was during one of his performances at the orphanage which left my mouth agape. My aspiration and goals have always been geared towards reaching out to orphans and other needy people in the society such as street children but never anticipated that I would one day come across one who would inspire me so much. His place of work perfectly fits my aspiration because my interest is to perform in Orphanages and Children's Homes, as well as in streets. This means that most of my audience will consist of orphans and street children.
Just like it is the case with my master, I will not have a big hall to perform my music, but unlike him, I will find specific places in the streets in different towns to hold my performance. This dream remains because of the nature and message in my compositions. Should the messages change, then maybe I will be able to reconsider my place of performance. This zeal is because most of my previous and even current compositions are based on giving encouragements and hope to people who are in unwanted situations such as the orphans and street families. Learning from my master, I realized that being permanently employed provides a constraint that prevents one from reaching out to people in diverse places as one may wish. I desire to start my organization, partly funded by other Non-Governmental Organisations and private groups, to reach out to young people in care homes and empower them through music.
I aspire to get my patrons from the organizations which will respond to my call; my master Antonio will remain my mentor and master. Antonio's work also involves training the orphaned girls to play the violin and perform dances. In my goals, however, I aspire to enrol street children and teach them to play the violin. My choice of this group of people is due to my previous interactions with them through which I realised the talent and skill among them. It has also been my deepest desire to help the helpless, homeless children in the streets by allowing them to rewrite their history. I, therefore, know that by training them, I will empower them to get more skills through which they can start a new life of independence; away from the streets.
My musical dream also gets its foundation from Antonio's 'The Four Seasons' in which he describes the different changes in nature, which correspond to changes in human lives during the four natural seasons. Antonio's four seasons made me understand that in every individual's life, there are seasons which come as a result of nature. Among these seasons is death, which leaves children in orphanages or other reasons which make the street children end up in the streets. Such seasons, however, need human intervention for them to give room to the next ones. Knowing that heaven has heard my prayers, I will delve into my musical world, composing more and more of them, as I seek out the best training site for my unknown students.
