Introduction
The movie 'A girl like Her' by Army Webber is a fiction movie as it describes the real-life situation that exists in the society we were living. It tells the story of a teen Jessica who suffered in her heart since she did not disclose what she was going through in the school environment. Jessica has gone through harassment in school that led to end her life through coma that resulted from the pills she had taken to commit suicide as a result of bullying in school from the verbally abusive students. Therefore the main points that come out of the film the discussion is going to cover are; bullying, school and parents roles, and technology.
In the film, bullying comes out as the first theme that mainly described in the movie. Bullying is evidenced by the usage of terms such as 'die, fuck, Ugly, and go and die.' Jessica was directed by all these bully words by a gang of bully girls either both face to face and through social media like mails. Through bully, Jessica could be able to have the courage of invading to her parent s medicine cabinet and take the pills that resulted in her coma. If I were Jessica, I could have informed the issue of bullying to school head and my parents so that they can be solved other than taking my life away.
School and parents have a role to play to make the life of teenager's smooth in the environment they are interacting. It was ironical for South Brookdale High School to be honored, yet it did not have the basic whereby issues of bullying can be reported in the institution. Another irony appears on the side of Jessica's parents, Stephanie and Mark Boyd whereby they appear as loving parents, yet they did not be able to notice the behavior of Jessica while she was going through all the bullies since she has kept her unhappiness. If it was a not for Brian, a supportive friend for Jessica, the truth could not have been identified. According to me I could have informed my parents about the bully before even the report it to the school since they could have found a lasting solution that could have saved Jessica s live.
Brian, in the movie, introduced the power of technology and how they can be used to reveal the acts of bad motives in society. Brian was Jessica's best friend that tried all she can to help Jessica even though she respected on her opinion that Brian did not share the footage that contained the recorded bullies from the school girls. Eventually, the secrets videos that have been taken by Brian came to be helpful to the comju8nity and the school that have taken time looking for answers as to why Jessica committed suicide after six months.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the movie gives out a message concerning the safety of the youth today. Youth today need to be protected from all sorts of problems that come in from the environment where they interact. The role of protection should come from both the parents and the school management since through unison; teenage problems can be easily managed. The perspective of bullying is also identified in the movie as bullying comes out as a form of strong language use such as the words like'' ass'' ''bitch'' "better you die."
