LA's Free Concert for Peace Essay

To celebrate The International Day of Peace on the Friday of September 21, 2018, the City of Los Angeles in collaboration with Amnesty International and public radio station KCRW will be hosting an event dubbed "LA's Free Concert for Peace". This event will be hosted at the Los Angeles State Historic Park from 12.00 to 3.00 pm. On board and in anticipation of the event, the mayor said, "Coming together in a concert of this kind promotes peace which in turn facilitates activities to happen in their proper forms. See you at the Park!"

The International Day of Peace is a day that is celebrated all around the world every 21st day of September. The General Assembly declared the day to be devoted to the strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all countries and peoples. Amnesty International is a global movement that campaigns for the enjoyment of human rights by all. KCRW is a public radio station based in Los Angeles which curates and creates music discovery, cultural exploration, NPR news, and informed public affairs

There will be three bands performing at the event, with the headliner being none other than one of Atlantic Records' finest, The War on Drugs. Atlantic Records was founded in 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson, both avid music fans and record enthusiasts. Their passion for artist development made Atlantic Records the home of choice for legendary artists including Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones, Cher, Genesis, Cream and many more. With over 60 years of recorded music history, our passion for artistry in music continues today as a new generation of incredible artists including Bruno Mars, Coldplay, fun., Jason Mraz, Ed Sheeran, Wiz Khalifa, Janelle Monae, Skrillex, Trey Songz, Hunter Hayes and more continue to further the Atlantic Records legacy. The other two acts will be the Priests and Paramore.

As a voice for human rights and peace, The War on Drugs is an indie rock band from the US, specifically Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Having been formed in the year 2005, the band is made of up of six members: David Hartley (Bass), Adam Granduciel (lyrics, guitar and vocals), Charlie Hall (drums), Robbie Bennett (keyboards), Anthony LaMarca (guitar), and John Natchez (saxophone). Under the band's belt are four albums: Wagonwheel Blues, Slave Ambient, Lost in the Dream, and A Deeper Understanding. Their last album A Deeper Understanding earned the band a sticking spot on the map by scooping the Best Rock Album Award at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

Talking about the concert, Adam Granduciel, the band's band leader said, "Headlining such an important event is such an invaluable opportunity for us. And what is a better day to promote human rights and peace than The International Day of Peace!"
