Boston is a known city in Massachusetts in America. It featured to be the 23rd largest city in the united states of America. It is believed that Boston was founded in 1630, therefore it stands out to be among the oldest city which serves an important role in the American Revolution. In the current world, Boston has risen in rank to be known as the international center of medicine as well as the provision of highest rank higher learning. University of Massachusetts University of science and technology gives credit to this particular city. It's estimated to cover about 93 miles squares. It forms home to one of the most densely populated states in the United States of America (Brunson, 2015). The city has a demographic population of about 618,000 as per 2010 census. This population has increased to surprisingly 667,137 by 2016. this makes Boston be the 10th largest area occupied by the metropolitan. Boston has a density of about 13841 per square miles. The most interesting thing about Boston city population keeps on shifting between day and night as well as during events that are special to their city. During work time of the day, there are about 1.2 million people in the city and approximately 2 million during any special events in the city. This happens because hundreds of thousand live in the suburbs area thus they commute to the city for various purposes such as education, work, and health care facilities services. According to the 2010 census Boston demographic has indicated a difference in its make-up comprising of 53 % of whites, 24% of black Americans, 17% of Hispanics, and 9% of Asians. Which contract the late 1950 makeup, the city by then constitute of 94% of the majority population. The population of Boston city has a low rate of the poverty level in comparison to other states.
On the other hand, the Boston police department dates back to 1838 as found. It holds the responsibility of law enforcement, maintaining peace and order as well as conducting an investigation in the task force. It is the oldest police department as per United State reports. The population of Boston population comprises 55% of the whites and approximately 30% of the black Americans. In the earlier year, it was worse since the majority were the whites. With time it has improved in blending in the diversification. though the police department workforce shows some cases of discrimination in their work. 63 % of the black within the city of Boston are given random checkup and frisks in comparison to 32% of the whites given the same action. Furthermore, the population of the arrested gives evidence of majority race within the Boston police department (Brunson, 2015). The number of blacks arrested is relatively high compared to whites. It is further reflected in the law cases of the conflicts. Though they have tried in diversifying reporting officers and judges, discrimination based on racial ethnicity has reduced over decades. But the blacks number reporting to such cases are still amounting higher compared to whites. As such, civil right activist decried and champion in discarding the policy, since it was seen to target the minority and as result yielding suspect and arrests. This further had a contribution to the high number of blacks convicted and jailed for the crime committed or even framed on. Such kind of action account to discrimination based on the color profile to be a suspect.
Lack of diversity in the police department is a continuing crisis. At this time when there is diversity by the current federal government in Boston department of the police (BPD), it recommends a significant transparency, the diversity of the people and also an inclusion of the community. Lately, in the wake there was police had been involved in a bloody shooting of the black people all around the country. The economic justice lawyers and those of the committee had to be called upon to the city to come up with a process to diversify the police department. There is also the suggestion on what should be done by the city. After about seven after people made the proposition on the solution most appropriate, they still haven't given to consideration of our proposal and hence the problem remains unaddressed and unsolved. However, in the interim of the city, we have uncovered that the Boston city has poured most of its resource to the effort to block any effort that tries to diversify the police force (Chaney, 2015). Hence for the city to help diversify the police department their deed to reverse course and start embracing any straightforward measures which help bring change. The problem which can be associated with the lack of diversity in the Boston police department will even get worse if the city doesn't take measures fast.
The Boston police department doesn't reflect on the different diverse community they serve. As it is well recognized that the if police depart is diverse it should pay close help to bring up the aspect of trust and also safety and hence this result to a sense of public safety. The united state department that deals with the justice task force mad highlights that there was the need to recruits police officers who would consider the community they are serving. After a decade of research on legitimizing the law and also strengthen the police department to help increase public safety. However, for such factor to be more active such diversity have to also extend to the police force starting from all the recruits to the supervisor. The Boston diversity is increasing but the BPD racial diversity remains the same. Even the city demographics have continued to bring up reports that all the white officer constitute of about 65% of the police department and the other minority group comprise of about just a third. Considering Boston has the most substantial majority and minority city (fan, 2015). All the Latino and the Asian are the community that is the least presented in the Boston police department. Comparing there are only about 9.6% of the police department are Latino and the Asian community are presented by about 2.3%. the number of racial diversities has even worsened in the superior officer's position. As report confirm all the lotions, the Asians and the blacks are on represented by just a 1/5 in the supervisory position.
The city is also not very aggressive in trying to find a solution to the lack of racial diversity in the Boston police department. This is a concerning issue as the city continues to impend any progress to try to diversify the police department. They have also failed to take any available steps to help with the situation. A good example is when the federal judge made a ruling that the disclination of the Latinos and the blacks in the police department to a selection of police lieutenants (Schuck, 2016). But rather than this problem is resolved the same issue if appropriate remedies for all the discrimination actions the city still fight the settlement and now, they are asking for any appellate review. Another solution that was offered and the city continues to neglect - involves the use of state officials to hire police officers with language skills. We point out that in other jurisdictions, but increase language ability but they also use them to succeed while at the same time enriching the diversity. There is no reason why Boston will not follow, mainly because it is urgent to be polite and culturally com
Conclusion
From the unwillingness of the city to change the police department has brought more problem to the citizens of Boston. Like the form, the shooting of the black man by the police as we see that her mother cry for help to take her son to the hospital is clear need to diversify the police department.
