Fitness Enhancement Programs Within The Navy

Health and Body fitness within the navy is considered to be paramount; therefore it is the duty of every navy officer to maintain his or her body fitness through observing proper eating habits and exercising regularly. Efforts to uphold or ensure fitness among every navy officer has resulted in the implementation of the fitness enhancement program within the United States Navy. The fitness enhancement program is focused on encouraging the navy personnel to follow a certain individualized workout and nutrition plan to reduce or minimize the excess body fats. The primary objective of the fitness program is to bring the navy officers back to their normal standards due to the yearly physical fitness assessment (Nissenbaum, 2004). The program requires all the participants to meet three to five times a week to perform various exercises such as running, and other gym exercises. Those who participate in the program are usually under the command of a fitness leader who is mandated the obligation of monitoring the progress of the fitness enhancement program participants and also advise them on the most effective exercise to undertake.

The fitness program is usually open to every navy personnel who intends to maintain his or her body fitness; however, the program is considered to be mandatory for the individuals who fail the annual physical fitness assessment until the time when they pass the assessment test. Failure to pass the navy yearly fitness assessment tends to have significant consequences or impact on the career. The progress of those taking part in the fitness enhancement program is also assessed or monitored through the participant's records and in monthly mocks. However, it is considered that the progress of every member may vary particularly depending on the participant's health status, age, and the general body consumption levels. The new rules being implemented in the navy such as loosening the limits of body fat protein to 35% body fat for women and 26% for men are making it easy for the navy to pass the tests; however, these changes are focused on attracting more navy officers into the fitness program (Lieberman et al., 2002). It is the requirement of the fitness enhancement program that those who pass the overall fitness standard but fail in their age-based maximum body fate rate should enter or join their command programs.

The Importance of the Fitness Enhancement Program in the Navy

The implementation of the fitness enhancement program in the navy has created significant impacts to the entire naval branch. The fitness enhance program is considered important due to various reasons that include; first, it helps to ensure that the physical fitness of the navy officers is up to standard. Since the implementation of the fitness program every individual in the navy is required to enroll in the program to make it easy or those in charge to monitor their general physical health. Every sailor has to undergo a yearly physical fitness assessment, which determines whether one is fit to take part in the navy operations such as being deployed for war. For navy officers to be deployed in the various navy task, he or she must have a very low or moderate fat rate. This means that he can take part in the tasks without being exhausted easily and the level of swiftness is high. If the general body fat levels are not reduced, the fitness enhancement program participant is considered to have failed the annual fitness assessment, therefore forcing the participant to retake the program until he or she passes the test. The assessment test is used in the navy to decide the direction of one's career. The fitness enhancement program ensures that the physical fitness of the navy official is up to standard through the creation of an effective diet and exercise plan for every participant.

Secondly, it helps to monitor the participant's health conditions. In most cases, the participants of the fitness enhancement program tend to be suffering from various health condition that affects their daily activities, for example, the injuries that they may have gained during war. The fitness enhancement program helps to assess if the injuries sustained are healing and whether those with the injuries can continue with the normal duties. The one in charge of the fitness enhancement program is mandated with the role of supervising those who are injured during war to ensure that the daily exercises are assisting them to recover. In case of any challenge with the recovery process, the officer in charge should make the necessary recommendation. On the other hand, the fitness program helps to identify various health conditions that may not have been identified if the navy sailors do not undergo the yearly assessment; such conditions include obesity.

The annual fitness assessment helps to identify or asses the weight and the fat level of the navy officers. Assessment of these conditions helps to identify whether a person is suffering from obesity or not. In case an individual records high-fat levels in the body and increased body weight, there is a probability that the individual is suffering from obesity. Identification of such health conditions helps the staff conducting the assessment to know who is fit for the normal service duties and who should retake the fitness assessment programs. To avoid the risk of getting these health conditions, the officers usual put tremendous effort in the fitness program and also observe a proper dietary plan that does not increase the general body fat levels. The united states government under the fitness enhancement program performs the role of providing the needed resources to the navy officer for them to overcome the various health conditions that they may be experiencing. For example, the united states government provides quality food that navy officers and also provide medical and gym facilities that will help them regulate the conditions. On the other hand, the government provides qualified health and training personnel to whom the navy officers can consult on how to manage their health conditions.

Thirdly, the fitness enhancement program helps to enhance the efficiency of the navy officers. A physically fit navy officer should have the capability to withstand any condition in the workplace and should also be swift enough to accomplish any task on time and with extreme effectiveness. The individuals who do not take part in any regular exercises on a daily or weekly basis are likely to be less effective in their duties. For example, they are likely to take a longer time to complete certain duties since their body muscles are not swift enough or relaxed. They are also likely to get exhausted at a higher rate thus making them unfit to for deployment into the battlefield. The fitness enhancement program helps to relax the muscles of the participants and enable him or her to withstand any condition they are subjected to. The strict implementation of the fitness enhancement program in the American navy has played a significant role in enhancing its ranking across the globe since the navy soldiers are considered to be very effective in their duties and operations.

Adherence to Instructions or Regulations in the Navy

Following the set regulations or instructions at all time is of utmost importance in the navy. The nature of obedience amongst the navy officers is what facilities the navy to function in an effective and organized manner, and also play a significant role in handling the challenging navy situations. Despite people questioning the notion of obedience in people's daily life, this luxury is mostly not available in the navy where the set goals and objectives require effective internal functioning and different hierarchy coordination. The navy is usually very keen on following the set instruction and regulations since it acts as a way of assessing the level of disciple pot rayed by the officers. Different forms of punishment are used within the navy to ensure that every individual is adhering to the regulations. For example, an individual who does not adhere to certain instruction may be at risk of being demoted or being suspended from duty (Cooke, 2013). No one is immune despite the ranks to disciplinary actions implemented for the individuals who do not adhere to the set regulations or instructions. In most cases, the navy officers are usually punished for not adhering to the basic regulations such as the restriction on alcohol consumption during wartime. The basic rules have a higher probability of being violated as compared to the tough laws since people tend to put less concern or focus on them.

The navy is considered to be a formal and very strict hierarchical institution where orders are effectively channeled gradually down from the senior's officers to the junior officers. The difficulties or challenges within the navy are attributed to the breakdown of the existing leadership structure as a result of the inability of an individual or group to follow the appropriate chain of command. Following instructions or regulation helps to instill discipline and ensure that everyone in the navy is in line with the others through the provision of a cohesive plan or regulations that tie the navy together as one unit.
