Introduction
I will seek the ideas and perspectives that will help me in solving some issues in the workplace. People from different ethnic groups and background possess particular approaches which enable them in addressing business issues. The diverse ideas from the employees at the workplace would promote the organization in achieving its set goals and objectives without experiencing difficulties. Valuing the perspectives and opinions provided by every employee from a different cultural diversity in a workplace promotes a stronger relationship between each other thus ensuring there is unity in the workplace (Podsiadlowski, Groschke, Kogler, Springer & Van Der Zee, pp159-175, 2013). The inclusive diversity will help my business to possess various talents and attract individuals who are open-minded from every part of the state.
I will also use the Platinum rule where I will be treating every employee in the workplace how they would like to be addressed. Through this, I will consider the boundaries and the expectations of my employees thus maintaining respect with every employee. Understanding the behavior of people from an unusually diverse background will also help in respecting my employees. For example, one can avert the misunderstanding caused by the various behaviors like maintenance of eye contact through understanding the way different cultures perceive these behaviors. Besides, apologizing will also help in making employees feel they are respected and it minimizes offenses caused to others (Podsiadlowski et al., pp159-175, 2013). Therefore, through doing this, my workplace will be productive and welcoming for every person since workers are treated appropriately.
Strategies to Use in Promoting Cultural Diversity and Why I Consider Them to Be Effective
I will ensure I have observed the celebration and traditions of different cultures through creations of a holiday calendar that is inclusive of every religion. Also, I will encourage my employees and the management to be involved and have the best ways of celebrating the particular traditions hence making every culture to feel appreciated (Avolio, pp 25, 2007). For example, during these celebrations, workers and other stakeholders can share food, music, etc. thus promoting teambuilding at the organization.
I will be committed to boosting the ethnic competency at the workplace. Educating me on various traditions and the approaches used in the workplace will help in promoting racial skill. Also, through interaction with the employees who are from a different cultural background would promote competency at the workplace (Avolio, pp 25, 2007). Therefore, development of understanding to multiple cultures will help in improving communication in the workplace and avoiding the misunderstandings.
How My Diversity Leadership Strategy Would Be Beneficial to My Company and Help in Gaining Competitive Advantage
The diversity leadership will help in improving the productivity of the company thus enabling in the achievement of goals and objectives which are set by the company's management. The moral of the employees is also improved thus making them have the desire for wanting to work efficiently and effectively. In the hospitality industry, diversity promotes the viewpoint of people concerning various issues which arises in the industry. The views of different employees from a diverse ethnic society help in increasing the participation and creativity in the industry (Prahalad and Hamel, pp275-292, 2006). Therefore, the hospitality industry will be able to have loyal clients and various individuals who acquire the services and product from the industry due to a diverse leadership.
My Diversity Leadership Strengths and the Weaknesses
Strength
There is increased creativity in the workplace since employees from a diverse culture possess different ideas that will help in solving issues at the workplace. Since the workers are focusing on the achievement of a particular goal, they will tend to direct all the creativity towards achieving the set goal (Moore and Rudd, pp 22-33, 2004). Besides the employees can be able to improve the strategies which were set by the management thus leading to an increase in productivity of the industry.
Weakness
Diversity at the workplace can be challenging if there is no active communication between the employees. Without appropriate communication dissemination of the services to the clients will be difficult leading to reduced productivity of the organization (Bumpus, pp792-815, 2005).To mitigate this challenge, most companies tend to hire bilingual or multilingual workers who can communicate effectively with clients using particular dialects.
