Introduction
The criminal justices system in the United States addresses the problems that have become progressively complex and rooted in the complicated issues of the society. Therefore, the criminal justice agencies are called into action to provide solutions that address societal problems and eliminated criminal behaviour (Merino, 2013). As a result, the US has designed a complex criminal justices systems where thousands of agencies work together to maintain law, order, and offer justice. Most importantly, the US criminal justice is divided into three major components that include law enforcement, courts, and the corrections department. The law enforcement officers are in charge of upholding the law, investigating crime and arresting criminals. The law enforcement includes agencies work from a local, county, state and federal level. At the national level, the federal law enforcers deal with federal crimes that occur in various US jurisdictions (Bohm and Walker, 2013).
The agency such as the FBI also supports the state and local enforcement when a need arises. Therefore, to effectively manage the various agencies in law enforcement, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is in charge of making sure that the agencies work collaboratively to investigate and deter crimes within the country's borders. Likewise, the US needs protection from crimes that affect the US outside its borders.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is tasked with the responsibility of protecting and implementing justice from external threats (Haugen and Musser, 2009). For example, the Coast Guard protects the country's maritime law enforcement and coastal defenses.
The courts play a crucial role in the US justice system as they ensure that individual rights are protecting according to the constitution under the law. The courts also ensure that criminals apprehended by the law enforcement agencies go through a fair trial (Neubauer, 2002). Courts also operate at both the state and federal level and the key players included judges, defense lawyers, prosecutors and members of the jury. Therefore, the purpose of the courts is to seek the truth and implement justice in the process in which a suspect is innocent until proven guilty. The courts work in collaboration with the law enforcers to ensure that evidence is corrected within a crime scene and presented to the courts for a determination of the verdict. If a criminal is found guilty, the court issues a sentencing that may include a jail, prison or a probation sentence (Bohm and Walker, 2013). In most cases, minor crimes are sentenced to community service under the terms of probation to provide justice.
Finally, the corrections department of the criminal justice is an important component of justice in the US. Convicted offenders are sent to jails or prisons where they serve the term of the sentences for the crimes committed. The purpose of the corrections department is to rehabilitate and punish criminals as well as ensure the safety of the public. The corrections system is composed of parole, probation and corrections officers. The corrections officers ensure the supervision of inmates in the course of the prison sentences. The probation agencies supervise juvenile and adult offenders under the watchdog of the courts while parole officers provide supervision to offenders that are released early from prison (Merino, 2013).
Conclusion
In conclusion, collaboration justice is a crucial aspect in the US because it ensures that the criminal justice agencies work together with the objective of protecting the US. It is through the collaboration that the US manages to deal with criminal activities and thwart domestic and international terrorism. Justice is essential for a safe society and that is why there are many agencies in the US tasked with specific crimes. The separation of powers ensure that the agencies work effectively in their jurisdiction and when a need arises, the agencies work together to accomplish common objectives.
