Introduction

A survey was conducted nationally in the US by a panel called The Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). The board conducts diverse surveys on various issues such as education, family dynamics, childcare, and assets, food security, and men's fertility and fatherhood, among others. The study focused on evaluating male fertility and fatherhood by examining men across different races, ages, marital status, and education attainment. The goal is to understand male fertility in the United States compared to their female counterparts.

Research

The article states that a large section of the adult population in the US is males. From the paper, it is clear to mention that a higher percentage of about 60% of the men are above 15 years and are fathers. The research statistics also state that men who have children before the age of 25 have more children compared to those who start having children at 35 years and above. Finally, about 24% of men who are between the ages of 40-50 are childless. The study has managed to illustrate which group of men has the highest rates of childlessness at the age of 40-50, which are the Hispanics. Education attainment is also linked to fatherhood and fertility, as indicated by the article-educated men with bachelors. Those in lucrative jobs have higher cases of childlessness compared to those with no jobs and low education attainment.

The author's main intention was to prove that a large percentage of males in the US who are aged 15 and above have their biological children. Out of the large portion, about a third have biological children with their married spouse, and 2.45 live with partners whom they are not married to and have biological children with them. The statistics do not vary much across races. Furthermore, it states that one of them has one kid with more than one partner in every group of ten men.

Concerns

The main concern arose on the issue of fathers living with their minor children alone. This was majorly considered necessary since a father's presence in a child's life is of great value. The fact determines abilities such as sociability, academic performance at school, and, most importantly, self-control.

Furthermore, over one out of four men have and live with their biological children who are 17 years and below. And they live with the minors without the other spouse. The children that are raised by their fathers often grow up to have children of their own. This makes their fathers the grandfather of their kids. There are about 29.2 million grandfathers. This number is almost the same percentage as that of men with minor kids, which is around 28.3%. However, very few men are both fathers and grandfathers to children who are minors.

Conclusion

From the above statistics, male fertility can be tracked and reported just like that of women. It is essential to note the issues such as the role of a father in the life of a child. The discussion above also gives the general statistics of the percentage of fathers who are married and have biological kids, living and raising minors single-handedly and those who are grandfathers and fathers of children at the same time. The statistics are outdated since it was collected several years ago. This means that several changes have taken place on the percentages and numbers. The changes could be negative or positive.
