Background information about the film, director, writer, actors, subject matter, and why you chose the piece.
Forrest Gump is a comedy-drama film released in 1994. Forrest Gump film depicts a story of Forrest Gump (Hank) who existed decades ago (Groom et al. 1994). Novel writer and director Robert Zemeckis directed the movie scripted by Eric Roth. The subject matter talks about how soft-hearted Hunk witnessed influences on various historical past activities and struggled towards his fortune. Photography of the film took place in Georgia, North Carolina, and part of it in South Carolina. For Hank to achieve some of the scenes and targets, he employed the use of the visual effect. The audience received Forrest Gump movie well due to its visual impact, scrip, and music. Casts for the film were, Tom Hank the main Character as Forrest Gump, Michael Conner Humphry was the young Forrest Gump. Other actors are Robin Wright, known as Jenny Curran, Sonny Shroyer, like Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Grant Bush as Black Panthers and Dick Cavett, who played the role of himself. Other characters were Peter Dobson, Haley Joel, Sally Field, Mykelti Williamson, and Gary Sinise. I chose Forrest Gump film because the movie is a visualization of the novel known as Forrest Gump.
What was your expectation of the film before viewing it?
The expectation I had before viewing the movie was very high and after reading the novel Forrest Gump, I expected to watch a vivid description of the Forrest Gump novel in the film. I was disappointed after watching the movie since it played below my expectation. Movie poster also created the expression of how Tom Hank was harmless and waiting for a bus at a bus station. After that, I expected to see the extreme situation sited in the novel where ape hosted Forrest in the forest after he crashed in the forest crash. The movie changed the script, and he ran across the woods only to find a football field (Martin & Jacobus 2014).
What was the director attempting to convey through the work? If so, did you feel that he/she was successful?
The director attempted to portray the earlier life of Forrest Gump that took place several decades ago (Starrs 2014). The message he wanted to pass was how people could face different challenges in society, which lead to their fortune. Yes, the director was successful in conveying the idea behind the Forrest Gump novel. Forrest joined the football team and secured a scholarship despite the bullying he faced from other boys. His wife, Jenny, married him even though she went through a lot of violent relationships earlier (Martin & Jacobus 2014). The additional evidence happened during the filming of the movie, the time had changed, and a lot had transformed. The character in Gump came out clearly and few as a soft-hearted individual whom people used to bully. Forrest Gump movie video effects created a reality on the environment and the actions as well as the music.
Explain. Do you agree or disagree with the directors' portrayal? Explain.
Yes, I agree with the directors' portrayal. Through the work he did, he made a great movie that other directors should imitate. The reality in the film well depicted compares to the illusions present in the novel. Through video effects, the director showed the real event to his audience (Gump 1994). He followed the script written despite the few differences he made for more understanding. According to the Forrest Gump novel, Hank is a massive two hundred- and forty-two-pounds person and six-foot-six person. He was a prominent person whom others could not bully easily. He used his special running skills to secure himself a scholarship.
Thoughts about the film you selected and how it affected you. Did you expect it to be what it was? How was it different? What effect do you think that this film has/has had on the audience?
In my own opinion, the film Forrest Gump is the better version of the original text. Even though it was different from what I expected, the movie Forrest Gump was well cast although the intended characterization was different from that of the novel. The film affected me in a way that I can some directing skills. As a director, it is essential to portray realistic acts within a movie. I never expected the video to be what it turned out. I expected a direct translation of the Forrest Gump novel version into the film. The difference, in my opinion, is that the movie Forrest Gump, is more realistic compared to the novel (ROBLIN 2015). Some parts of the book ignored as it started well from chapters one to eight before jumping into the concluding paragraph. The film portrays Forrest as an average guy with traditional skills such as running. The coach offered him a sports scholarship for the team which differs with the novel where he is an astronaut who crashed in the forest and hosted by an ape. Forrest Gump film has an appositive influence on the audience. Forrest was not very intelligent, yet he made it in life. The audience learns that the fate of an individual will follow them unknowingly. When he was chased in a forest and to the football field, Forrest met his fate.
