Introduction
Blue Apron is an American corporation that provides ingredients and recipe meal kit solely to the United States market. The corporation was founded in 2012 by Matt Wadiak, Matt Salzberg, and Ilia Papas ("Blue Apron: Fresh Ingredients, Original Recipes, Delivered To You"). Usually, Blue Apron provides weekly boxes that comprise of the ingredients and the recommended recipes. The consumers utilize this information to cook their desired meal combinations. While Blue Apron is currently a public company offering meal kits services for the customers, the paper focuses on discussing another food service for the college students as well. Further, the paper will compare the new food service and Blue Apron while providing the most significant strategies to make the new product better.
The proposed new food service entails a mobile application where the students can order their foods at their comfort zones. Through this application, the students will stand a chance to order already cooked food either for breakfast or lunch. In most cases, students engage in a lot of activities, and they may sometimes engage in late night interactions with friends. In such cases, they find it changeling to pick up the food for cooking. The new application will help these students by providing an opportunity to order already cooked food at the comfort of their rooms.
In comparing these two food services, it is essential to evaluate the common aspects evident in the two products. The common similarity is that both Blue Apron and the mobile application food service provide the consumers with an opportunity to order the foods online. The two platforms also deliver the orders to the consumers. On the other hand, the contrasting element is that while Blue Apron delivers ingredients to the consumers, the new applications will provide the students with already made food.
Therefore, various aspects show that the new platform will be better than the services provided by the blue apron. The most significant aspect that creates a competitive advantage is that the mobile application will allow students to order already made food. As discussed earlier, students are always committed to a lot of work, and they may have limited time to prepare the ingredients as provided by Blue Apron. Another advantage is that the new mobile application will be flexible such that it will allow the students to order a wide range of food preferences at any time of the day. On the contrary, Blue Apron provides a fixed weekly menu which limits the consumers to a particular recipe for the week. It is to this effect that the corporation often losses subscribers as the consumers seek other flexible options ("Blue Apron: Fresh Ingredients, Original Recipes, Delivered To You"). In this case, the new mobile application will stand a chance to capture these new consumers who may not be satisfied with Blue Apron services.
Additionally, the new mobile application will create a competitive advantage by providing affordable prices for the wide range of food products. It is worth noting that price is a significant element in attracting a larger market size. In this case, the target market is the college students ho mostly depend on their guardians for their survival in college. For this reason, their disposable income may be limited, and by providing food at a lower price, the students will often prefer the new product over Blue Apron.
