The unfortunate demise of Bob on 12th October 2018 left my heart broken, and my life is incomplete after losing such a kind soul and my mentor. Bob over the years has grown to become more than an acquaintance and a mentor for nurturing me over the years to become the person I am today. Bob has taught me valuable lessons and virtues in life that I couldn't learn in school or from my parents. Generously, Bob gave me the knowledge and revealed essential life values that I did not find in hundreds of books that I came across in school. Due to this immense contribution in my life, I feel forever indebted to Bob, a debt that I cannot be able to repay in a lifetime.
Bob came into my life when I was only 15 years old and going through a troubling time of adolescence and peer pressure. At the time, I had become a rebel at home, and my parents could barely control my unbecoming behavior due to peer pressure. Bob at the time was the head football coach in our school, and at the same time, Bob owned a retail shop in town. During my senior year in high school, I decided to join the football team out of the recommendation of Bob when I went to get some cigarettes from his retail shop. This single moment was a turning point in my life and the beginning of a mentorship relationship with Bob being the mentor. Bob tried his best to change my negative behavior and my addiction to cigarettes. Joining the football team gave me an opportunity to know Bob beyond a regular acquaintance as a retail shop owner in town. Bob introduced me a way of life that was sustainable and at the same time progressive towards my academic as well as my health well-being. At the end of the year, I had been able to turn my life around and improve my grades all thanks to Bob who never gave up on me at the most challenging time of my life.
After finishing high school, I joined a local community football team where Bob was the chairman. It was only five months after high school when my parents were involved in a fatal accident and died four months later after being in hospital in the intensive care unit. Bob during this time supported me financially and gave me messages of hope from the bible which steered me through my darkest moment. Bob always quoted Jeremiah 29: 11 and emphasized that God has a good plan for me. After my parent's passing, Bob volunteered to pay for my college education, and during holidays I would help him at his retail shop. Bob helped me to find a home when I thought all is over in my life and gave my life a spiritual direction and dependence on God.
Conclusion
Today, I am a good Christian and a loving father raising my family in a Godly way which was shown to me by Bob. I feel engulfed with hopelessness and despair now that you are gone Bob, my heart aches remembering all the great things that Bob has done for me. Bob has been an embodiment of hope, generosity, love, friendship and overall a godfather to me. Bob's legacy as a mentor and spiritual father will live on because he has taught me to be generous and see the best in people as he did with me. I am grateful to Bob for his kindness and positivity that made me triumph over despair and lack, may his soul rest in peace.
