Introduction
Women have a significant role to play in pop culture in different ways; pop culture refers to the material culture and culture in terms of literature, music, art, television, dance, cyber-culture, where the majority of the people consume the culture. Women have a significant role to play in pop culture where they can use any kind of artistic work to show their talent. There is various artwork that has been done by women where women have shined more than men. Women need to come out and play their roles and utilize their talents and abilities.
The Bad Bunny's Music Video "Caro" is among the genres of pop culture where women have been able to shine and their talents recognized by the world. The music highlights the challenges that women face as they try to break even in pop culture (Bunny). The song popularity on youtube is an indication that society has embraced women in pop culture. The women outsmarted the men in of how the women were able to play their roles effectively. Bad Bunny's Music Video shows how women are able to be creative in making music that can be compared to meet the standards of the music produced by men.
The implications of gender underestimation are that where women are looked down upon that, they cannot embrace pop culture in a manner. The representation of women in the music industry shows the strides made by women in using art as one of the aspects of pop culture. My concern on the song is that the musician had to create a high-quality video to impress the viewers. The producer of the song was under pressure to make the video unique in order to get the attention of the viewers.
There are gender expectations among the people where society puts more effort among women to perform better than their male counterparts. The men have dominated the pop culture over the years; hence, the women have to perform better in order to be accepted by society (Murnen et al., 80). The women feel the pressure; hence, they put extra effort in order to succeed in a competitive environment. In the Bad Bunny's Music Video "Caro", the women are given the role of representing the social role that women play in supporting their families in society. The narrative in the movie is based on torture were women are tortured more than the men.
There are concerns regarding music produced by women that the content of the video cannot be watched by all people. The women have been accused of sexualizing music videos. The women were used to take care of the families of the slave masters, which is a reinforcement of the gender roles are shown by society (Von Flotow). Pop culture is becoming popular in society, where people are using their skills and talents to develop an industry of pop culture. The globalization of the world also changed the way people view the world, therefore, people are becoming higher lightened on the activities they can engage in to earn an income (Murnen et al., 82). Women, too, are beginning to recognize that they can engage in activities that were previously seen to be for men. The gender roles are slowly shifting, where both genders are beginning to perform the gender roles that were previously performed by the opposite gender.
The Bad Bunny's Music Video "Caro" is a representation of the creativity of women in pop culture. More women are entering the music industry in different genres of music. Women have a role to play in showing the concerns that affect them using art where they use music to spell out the challenges that women face in the community. The women can create music with a various theme that reflects the culture of the community and the changes that they would like to see in the community. People listen to music a lot; therefore, they are likely to embrace what the musician might be advocating for.
Women can also use pop culture to share their feelings towards their loved ones where they create art that will show their love towards their loved ones. Among the things that Bad Bunny's Music Video "Caro" reflects on is pregnancy, men have no idea of what women go through during pregnancy. Therefore, pop culture can be used to share feelings and experiences with the opposite gender. Women also use art like music to denounce social ills happening in society because people are likely to listen to such topics on art and pop culture as opposed to traditional communication.
Bad Bunny's Music Video "Caro" celebrate gender achievement of the women. They are treated with equality, and society is embracing women as an important player of the community (Bunny). Women play a significant role in the development of the whole community. There are arguments that if the women succeed the entire community benefit because they support their families which is part of the society.
In this video, gender is presented differently from how society perceives. At the beginning of the video, he is wearing a cotton role and is getting his nails done. Normally men do not do manicures as this is a service that is associated with femininity (Von Flotow). In pop culture, however, men do manicures, and this is not associated with an artistic job but is rather done for enjoyment. Bad Bunny is having his nails painted black. Due to the perception based on gender that only women should seek such services, men who want to enjoy manicure may be discriminated with some salon denying them the services. In 2018 Bad Bunny was a victim of this perception where a salon denied him manicure service due to his gender.
Conclusion
The song promotes self-worth, which is an important aspect when it comes to gender. Groups such as LGBTQ+ are mostly criticized by people thus not accepted. These people need to accept themselves and acknowledge their worth, even when no one else does (Von Flotow). This song means expensive advocates for acknowledging that you are worth and live a fulfilling life without having to worry about what people are thinking of you. Self-love is the most critical thing because if you do not value yourself, you will likely feel unaccepted by society.
Bad Bunny gets his nails painted regardless of living in a culture with strict traditional gender standards. Men are expected to be masculine and tough, and they are not allowed to do things that are associated with femininity (Bunny). Painting nails is something that is done by the female gender, and whoever deviates from these standards is highly criticized.
