Introduction

Gay is a term widely used to refer to an individual who is homosexual. Sexual attraction and behavior among individuals of the same sex orientation is referred to as homosexuality. A transgender individual is a person whose gender identity does not match the sex they were when they were born. They choose to change their sexual orientation whereby a man can undergo a surgical procedure to change their genitals to those of a woman. A woman can also change her female organs to those of a man. The decision to be gay or be a transgender person is personal. Issues arise when other members of the public express their concerns, and the government has to intervene and come up with a form of regulation.

Socially gays and transgender people receive different reactions from people. Some individuals feel like it is okay to be a gay person or to be a transgender person. Despite the many opinions of people, most individuals are not for the idea and greatly criticize gays and transgender (Rhodes et al., 2016). There have been cases of people attacking gays and transgender persons both physically and on online platforms such as social media. Other individuals have embraced these people and even set up unique entertainment joints for them from other people.

In the past, cases of gay persons were very few and also were never discussed openly. Many societies were against gay behavior, and there were no transgender persons (Farmer, & Yancu, 2015). Transgender persons were the gays back then, just that they had not undergone the medical procedure to change their sexual orientation. Gay people used to operate in the shadows under cover of darkness. It was considered a condition in which the individual could not recover from; hence, most were hung by the throat till dead upon being discovered. Societies in the past did not tolerate same-sex attractions or behavior.

Politicians have played their politics and used gays and transgender people as a topic to gain voters. Politics will be significantly affected once a solid decision concerning the rights of gays and transgender people. There will no longer be a platform to use to lure individuals into voting for them; hence, politicians would want the matter to remain unsolved and use it for their gains. The gay and transgender people community has played a huge role in shifting the tides of politics over time since the community has grown drastically. Politicians should make laws that protect the welfare of gay and transgender persons.
