Introduction

Before Trump's administration, too many immigrants were entering the United States with little restrictions, and this created thousands of cases for charity and a decrease in the standards of living of the people. The poem on the Statue of Liberty by Lazarus is reduced to the meaning of a need for diversity in the United States. Many people argue that President Trump's administration has reduced diversity in the country and has ignored the poem's radical imagination concerning diversity and the American greatness it brings along in cultural and economic development. In the past, immigration to the United States was considered a way to unite people from all cultures. Still, the thought has changed in the present day with xenophobia, refugee crises, immigration bans, and anti-black racism is evident in the country.

Immigration Change Under President Trump

Since Trump entered office in 2017, his administration has proposed and implemented different policies that have had different effects on issues related to immigration. The policies that Trump administration has created include asylum, a program for refugee resettlement, and different deportation policies (Pierce, 2019). Trump's administration has changed the immigration policies in different ways, most of which have received a lot of attention from the media and been criticized by the media. The strategies, such as the enforcement actions at the border between the United States and Mexico, have received the most attention and criticism. Some of the changes have been handled in court, especially the attempt to stop foreign nationals who illegally cross to the United States from receiving asylum.

As Trump promised during his campaigns, his first change as soon as he entered office was border security, especially in the Southwest border. The president had promised to construct a wall along the border, and this made him order the deployment of the National Guard to the border (Pierce, 2019). This deployment has led to the separation of families, children being detained, and the use of force to prevent people who seek asylum from getting into the country through the Southern border.

Trump had suggested that the migrants be shot to stop them from gaining access to the United States. Social media tracking is another change that was realized after Trump entered the office. Migrants were required to make a list of all their social media accounts on immigration forms for easy monitoring of their social media activity (Pierce, 2019). Asylum seekers also go through credible fear interviews that are conducted by experts to determine whether the individuals have excellent reasons to acquire asylum in the United States.

Annual Number of Legal and Illegal Immigrants

The annual number of migrants coming into the United States either legally or illegally has reduced with the implementation of the changes realized during Trump's reign. The Southern border where most immigrants came to the United States through was sealed with a barrier reducing the number of immigrants that could access the country (Abramitzky & Boustan, 2017). The administration has also pushed for visa sanctions pressuring several countries to accept their citizens back in case they are removed from the United States. The visa sanctions have reduced the amount of immigrants getting into the country and have also helped to decrease the amount of foreign people in the country through deportation.

Getting green cards to acquire residence and citizenship in the United States from outside countries has become harder, decreasing the amount of immigrants that arrive in the country either legally or illegally (Abramitzky & Boustan, 2017). Legal immigration using green cards has been cut by half from one million green cards each year. The policy that domestic violence in other countries is not an assurance of asylum in the United States has helped to reduce the number of women fleeing domestic violence in their countries of origin.

An Announcement by Governor Abbott

Recently, Governor Abbott announced that new refugees would be banned from settling in Texas. The state followed the new rule by President Trump of not allowing new refugees in the current year. The rule by Trump was that leaders have to issue written consent before allowing refugees to be resettled in their states. Abbott announced that since the year 2010, Texas had received the most refugees than in any other state, with 10% of all refugees in the United States settling in this state (CBO, 2015). Congress left Texas to deal with the migration issues that created a disproportionate sharing of resources.

Governor Abbott has since received a lot of criticism because Texas was known to be a welcoming state for refugees. Many people are arguing that his decision is negatively affecting the legacy of the state, with nonprofit organizations challenging the order in court to make it possible to resettle refugees in Texas again. A federal judge based in Maryland, however, temporarily blocked the policy allowing refugees to continue settling in various states in the United States.

Effects of the Policies on the Economy

The policies created by Trump administration have had both positive and negative impacts on the economy of the United States. The positive effects of the policies are that the rates of employment of the young and less educated native-born individuals of the United States increase (CBO, 2015). The employment of such people in America improves their living standards, reducing poverty levels in the United States. All Americans are assured of work as the policies require that companies offer jobs to Americans first. The adverse effects of the policies on the country's economy include farmers having a hard time getting workers to replace the immigrants that are restricted from getting into the country.

The farmers are forced to cut on production to deal with the reduced supply of labor. According to a report in the past, it was estimated that the country would use $60 billion to deport over 750,000 immigrants (CBO, 2015). The immigrants contribute $1.6 trillion to the economy of the United States every year (CBO, 2015). When they are rejected access to the country, the economy deteriorates because the revenue that the country gets from them is no longer available.

These policies that control immigration in the United States are a good thing that should continue being used in the future as they act as a long term goal of the United States law on immigration. They help to ensure that the new arrivals do not become a burden to those already in the country (Pierce, Bolter, and Selee, 2018). The policies will help to protect American industries and workers from immigrants who come with skills from their home countries and take the jobs that belong to the Americans. Immigration has caused several disputes between the Americans and immigrants as they feel threatened that their job positions will be made by the immigrants who offer cheap labor. Immigrants provide labor at lower wages and drive out workers born in the United States from companies and their places of work.

The policies have also helped to reduce the causes of terrorism mainly from Islamic countries as well as drug dealing cases from Mexico. The high number of immigrants from countries like Iran and Iraq were a major cause of terrorism before the Trump administration created the policies to regulate the number of immigrants in the country (Pierce, Bolter & Selee, 2018). An excellent example of the reason why Trump eliminated diversity lottery for people from foreign countries is due to a 2017 terrorist attack where eight people died in New York (Pierce, Bolter & Selee, 2018). The perpetrator of the crime had won the visa through a diversity lottery.

The creation and implementation of the policies by Trump administration will help to control the number of people settling in America. The government will also have a transparent background and knowledge of all immigrants making it easier to follow up on them and reduce rates of terrorist attacks in different states of the country (Pierce, Bolter & Selee, 2018). The speed at which drugs and counterfeit goods are imported in the country by immigrants will also be reduced, giving home companies value. The value otherwise deteriorates when counterfeit goods infiltrate the market and create cheaper options for the products produced in the United States.

Conclusion

In the past, immigration was considered a way to unite people from all cultures, but the thought has changed in the present day. Trump has created different policies from the time he entered into office that has affected how immigrants settle in the United States. The policies have had both positive and negative effects on the economy of the United States since the immigrants contribute to the development of the companies through the skills they possess from their home countries. The adverse effects of the immigrants are realized when some of them take part in terrorist attacks and drug trafficking.
