Introduction
Various situations face an organization. As a result, a business leader should be equipped with hone skills of negotiation to ensure that such issues are mitigated effectively and efficiently. For instance, a business leader should make it personal to ensure that healthy relationships are built between him and his workers. According to Walter, the latter is discussed to provide a good working environment for the employees which would increase the overall production yield of the organization (2015).
Despite the negotiation skills required in improving the performance of a business, a leader should also be able to coach people and encourage innovation in the organization, in terms of leadership behaviour. Coaching people involves delivering the necessary information and skills which would boost the performance of the employees (Charter for Compassion Foundation, 2017). Innovation is always the key to success in an organization.
Negotiation and Leadership Behaviour
Business leadership is the ability of a person or a group of persons to direct and lead an organization towards the achievement of a particular objective. Various business behaviours are associated with effective leadership. For instance, an effective business leader is supposed to create fervent trust between the management and the employees (Hickey, 2015). This makes such a leader both task and people oriented which will eventually lead to the success of any business venture.
Negotiations are as much of greater importance. A business leader should be able to communicate flexibly as this would ensure that their bargaining power during negotiations is fully realized (Manhattan Review, 2019). Communication is very crucial to a business leader.
Decision Making and Negotiation Strategies in Business
Decision making and negotiation strategies are critical determinants of the success of a company depending on the approach adopted by the leadership of the organization. However, the two are very different.
For instance, heuristic decision making is a decision making strategy aimed at the development of decisions affecting the business in the absence of full information required to make such decisions (LaMarco, 2018). On the other hand, negotiation strategies are aimed at the development of a crucial relationship between the leaders of the organizations with their stakeholders, consumers, or contractors (Hoffman, 2018). A leader should be able to differentiate between the two if they want their business to achieve a Fortune 500 business status.
Two Strategies Significant in Business Development
Negotiation strategies and decision-making strategies differ in so many ways but are also similar in some ways. They are applied differently in business just as they are formulated differently, but they are aimed at a particular objective in business.
For instance, they are aimed at the development of better relations between employees and employers (Fragale, 2018). Better relationships are crucial in increment of business performance. The leadership of an organization ought to involve their subordinate in decision-making processes, as well as negotiation processes.
Flexibility is ensured in negotiation as different ways can be formulated to solve a specific problem (Williams, 2015). However, decision making is sometimes rigid and can only be applied in addressing a particular issue. An example of such a strategy is analytical decision-making strategy.
Diversity, Culture and Gender Roles in Business Leadership
For a business to fulfil its set out objectives, three features are crucial: diversity, culture, and gender. Every company is aimed at maximizing the wealth of its shareholders, and therefore, gender is vital in ensuring this objective is met. Parity should be secured for women in most business leadership to ensure success is realized (The Guardian, 2013).
A business leadership which is constituted of diverse people is likely to lead to higher financial returns than a business leadership which excludes diversity in its management (Manhattan Review, 2019). The latter is so because a better decision-making process and problem-solving ideas are realized when working with a diversified leadership team.
Culture is of uttermost importance to business leadership. For instance, an organization can understand all its clientele if the staff members come from the cultural backgrounds that their clientele stems from. Understanding customer needs would lead to greater client satisfaction leading to increased business sales.
The Three Factors Necessary for Efficient Business Leadership
Women need to be included in business leadership if any company is aspiring to boost their numbers, in terms of profits. Its approximated that only three percent of women hold CEO positions in big companies which is very saddening. As a result, the hiring of employees needs to be balanced to ensure women are considered in top job positions.
Migration is widespread nowadays. As a result, business organizations need to take advantage of this. Diversity has been researched to aid in staff retention as it provides room for growth in the organization (Jones, 2018). Most employees would leave an organization once they realize that the chances for growth are minimal.
Cultural diversity is crucial as it is related to the innovativeness of an organization (Lepsinger, 2018). People of different origins have different ideas which when integrated can lead to significant innovations that can help propel the performance of the organization.
