Introduction
Donald Trump's election demands the reexamination of future globalization and our hope that the current situation will endure. Now is when to consider that our leader will be able to reverse years of global trends. This essay expresses the current US administration with regards to world trends in immigration, its globalization by using David Sibley's and Stuart Hall's works to synthesize the developments.
As assessed globalization is at the corner of a retreat and this conclusion is injurious. Assessing the movement of goods, people and money across international borders, globalization is gradually advancing. It is also evident that the global economy is together today as compared to the peak of previous years. Looking into the future, it is speculated that years approaching will be named by making globalization stable or adding more integration at a modal pace compared to previous years. There are rhetorical questions on how this can be achieved if at all Donald Trump election administration alters this pattern.
In Trump's victory speech, he was against most of the current us trade agreements. He pledged to build a wall to keep off migrants whom he accused were rapists, and even threatened to raise the tax on states doing overseas trading. With Trump's a hundred days plan, we see how committed he is to expel more migrants, label China a currency abuser, and establish higher tariffs to scare investors and more so to suspend immigration from terrorism affected areas.
If Donald Trump succeeds in implementing this plan, it's effect on globalization may play at three ways as follows; first; The US will turn inwards because it holds the biggest global share, migrants and capital stock hence Trump's impact on globalization will be greatly felt. The US plays a big role in the global capital market. With these markets, the area to be most affected is its own outside Foreign Direct Investment. The US is a home country to twenty percent migrants stock. It' is also the top destination of different people from different worlds. This condition directly alters global current global economy (Hall, Kobena & Henry, 34
With all these policies, it's anticipated that Trump can start a trade war. This has been outwardly shown by China who reacted harshly against US trade policies by canceling some contracts. China did this by restricting some of its students studying in US Universities; it also increased Tariffs to US and even canceled contracts with the US suppliers.
Politicians from different countries like Italy and Hungary have mocked Trump's victory saying its biggest result will be changing globalization patterns to the negative. Trump, as a controversial leader, has used a different technique as analyzed by Sidley's work.
The third way Trump election may affect the future of globalization is because of rising uncertainty since it is a very unpredictable administration. With the breaking of globalization, there is a proof that global economic integration is neither irreversible nor irresistible. This policy is a sign of the uncertainty. The most important risk is how Trump will respond to anticipated events in the course of his presidency through his globalization perspective (Sibley, 56). This uncertainty alters how potential investors and the people will view the indirect and direct policies of Trump thus reducing confidence in the Government. This change as well increases the range of possible negative impacts.
Taking this consideration, our view of future globalization has indeed changed. It's less assured that global economic order will survive long enough.
