Effective Persuasive Communication in the Personal Context

One example of effective persuasive communication in the personal context entails the sending of an email to a friend, posting on social media, as well as communication to a child's teacher. In most cases, such communication contexts do not require high levels of professionalism. However, the language used must have a high level of persuasion. Taking the example of an email sent to a friend, this is a close individual who only requires to feel convinced regarding a particular issue. Personally, I have been involved in writing emails to friends. One of the purposes of sending the emails was to persuade a friend to attend an art exhibition to showcase his prowess in painting. For this reason, the email was written in a polite tone and with less formality. Also, the email incorporated humor so as to capture the attention of the audience. Creating persuasion in the personal context might also involve the use of gestures to create emphasis on some words, especially when delivering the information directly to the audience.

Effective Persuasive Communication in the Professional Context

As pointed out by Stiff and Mongeau (2016), persuasive communication is vital for any professional working environment. It ranges from a simple email to making a presentation during a meeting of the board of directors. As such, the audience consists of professionals or business people. Considering my field, I am constantly required to present projects before other business persons or professionals with an objective of persuading them into granting me various tenders or approve plans. For this reason, I have always used persuasive language to shape and reinforce the responses from the audience. On the same note, speakers presenting reports on projects must incorporate unique aspects in order to craft a persuasive bit of communication such as honesty, level of involvement, as well as the level of skills. On the basis of honesty, the speaker is required to have a high level of knowledge in relation to matching his skills in communication to the presentation difficulties. Also, having a self-understanding helps the speaker in the professional context to make the communication more specific and more compelling. As mentioned above, one of the persuasive writing in the professional context is the email due to its persuasive and official nature. Thus, the speaker should use a formal or professional language due to the nature of the involved audience.

Effective Persuasive Communication in the Academic Context

As noted by Ellet (2011), effective persuasive communication in the academic context such as class discussion needs an art of persuasion. In the academic context, individuals seek to effect a distinct change in the perspective of the audience. Importantly, the academic context requires the author or the speaker to demonstrate his credibility and authority. Furthermore, the aforementioned context needs an individual to persuade the readers who may be the students of something he can prove or the first-hand information. For this reason, the audience needs to be convinced through concrete statistics. Further, the speaker should consider incorporating a formal voice with the appropriate correctness. Published textbooks are a good example of materials that use persuasive communication in the academic context through an explanation of facts to the audience.
